Hell, they ain't even old-timey ! - Homer Stokes
Well, I think I would have to go with "Within You, Without You," as well.
However, here's my favorite runner-up:
The music is more R&B, but the sentiment is straight out of the psychedelic underground.
Also, all the H.P. Lovercraft mentions are right on the money!
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world.

my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
T2 - Morning
Yeah, I know, it's proto-prog. But it still has enough feet in the psych world.
Got to give it psych cred just for the cover!
And if there were a god, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence - Russell
Probably wouldn't be my choice, but I'm a little surprised no one's selected The Factory -"Path Through The Forest"
Probably either Burning of the Midnight Lamp or Voodoo Child (Slight Return).
Or Brown Shoes Don't Make it.
A great big blotter of acid rock from Alice....
"And your little sister's immaculate virginity wings away on the bony shoulders of a young horse named George who stole surreptitiously into her geography revision."
Occasional musical musings on https://darkelffile.blogspot.com/
"Magic Carpet Ride" - Steppenwolf
"The End" - The Doors
"Normal is just the average of extremes" - Gary Lessor
I would certainly concur with Eight Miles High and Slip Inside This House as mentioned earlier in the thread. Smell Of Incense by the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band is another favourite pysch tune of mine.
If push came to shove, though, I think I'd have to go with The Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil by the Airplane.
Another good one:
We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973
Agree "The Fool" is right up there.
"My choice early in life was either to be a piano player in a whorehouse or a politician, and to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference"
President Harry S. Truman
As is "Edward, The Mad Shirt Grinder" featuring Nicky Hopkins.
We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here

And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973
It might seem more like a Space Rock Song now, but since it was made before the "space rock" designation was created and was clearly made by a Psychedelic band:
Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun: Pink Floyd
Simon Dupree and the Big Sound - Kites.
Can I have several? lol
Just from the more well known end of the spectrum -
Tomorrow Never Knows
I Am The Walrus
2000 Light Years From Home
Perhaps finding the happy medium is harder than we know.
The Rolling Stones - She's A Rainbow
The Kinks - Waterloo Sunset
Cream - White Room

Lot of great and intersting picks, keep 'em coming I say!
For me, this has to be part of any all-time psych list. This was the epitome of the stoned psyched ethos for me back in the day:
Not to mention one of my fave album covers

Lots of great songs already mentioned i would agree are favorites. So rather than try and outdo the rest i'll just throw something out there who's band name is the 'ultimate' psych band name and is plenty long enough to get your freak on.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - ...And The Gods Made Love / Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland)

Electric Ladyland is a goldmine of psychedelia, i played the hell out of that when i first installed a cassette player in my old VW bus.
And for today, i think i will choose this 1983 (A Merman I Should Turn To Be) as my favorite psych song of all time (sorry i couldn't find the original on yootoob however this Allman Bros cover ain't too shabby)
