How many cd's you you own by the same album, with the artist ?

    Hi Folks,

How many albums to you own that re- released again and again of the same album.:?:.....

Like movie DVD's...... Was also confused by these terms Directors cut.

However, geting back to music. I realized todays standard is much better now. A band from the 70 & 80s had limited rescources back then. CD's were classed as AAD, ADD, and best was DDD for best quality.

I've stopped buying cd's now and get digital downloads, far cheaper now, specially when postage is concerned. Since the record shops here are closing down, what's the point... A cd can cost between $15.00 to $30.00 to ship... Depending on it's origin . A digital download can cost as little as $5.00 - $12.00 in most cases.

I was always sceptical back in the 90s about re-mastered cd's, but now can say the world of technology has done a grand job of re-producing fantastic music to todays hi-tech standards

I try to avoid re-buying unless there is a very clearly articulated reason to do so (killer bonus disc, audibly noticeable improvement in sound, etc.)
I think 4x of one album is the most I have. I own a lot of things 3x (e.g., most classic Yes albums) and probably own a few things 4x but the only one that comes to mind is Lark's Tongues in Aspic.

    1. Atlantic cassette
    2. "Definitive" CD, 1989
    3. 30th Anni Gatefold Mini LP.
    4. 40th Anni with the Beat Club DVD. The DVD is amazing, I don't care for the Wislon remix.

Most of my 1960s and early 1970s Miles Davis albums I have on vinyl, cassette and CD - lots of the CD stuff I have multiples of when they were part of box sets.

About half of my vinyl I rebought on CD although my collection is newbie sized compared to some of the hardcore collectors here. Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is probably been purchased the most.

    LP (twice)
    MFSL LP.
    CD
    MFSL CD
    Experience Edition

    Then its also on
    Pulse CD, LD and DVD

    Shine On Box Set

In the early 90's I had 38 different copies of The Dark Side of Moon on vinyl. Releases.from all over the world.
    They have all been sold.

Of the same albums I think Close To The Edge, Relayer, Tales & Going For The One by Yes. I still have my original vinyls plus multiple remasters and the latest SW remixes on Blu Ray & cd. I am also finding it hard to resist the 6LP SW remixes box set coming out soon

I also have the recent SW solo albums on cd/dvd, vinyl and blu ray but nothing too excessive!

I have one Wim Mertens album twice, because the accompaning album wasn't available seperatly.
I had Shot and echo, but to get A sense of place, I had to buy a double album with Shot and echo and A sense of place.

I've got five versions of England's "Garden Shed":
    - original vinyl-version from 1977
    - Japanese CD-version
    - 1997 The Forward Organisation-version
    - 2005 Garden Shed Music-version (in 7" cover + 1 bonustrack)
    - 2015 Golden Edition (New Music/Green Tree) with bonus-CD

My Allan Holdsworth-collection also has a lot of doubles and triples (both his solo-albums and his contributions to records from Bruford and Soft Machine).

I think I have a lot of triplets (original LP, first CD, remastered CD).

4 versions would be most likley the hightest nummer, which would be Gentle Giant - Playing the Fool
(original 2LP and 3 CD versions (single and double CD)

  17. #17
I also have some doubles when I bought some box-sets, like The Beatles, Focus, Grobschnitt (mentioned earlier), Silly (hardly a box-set, but just 5 CD's in cartboard-sleaves in a cartboard box) and A.R. and Machines.

I've often got rid of the first CD reissue, and don't have all that many vinyls left

But for a lot of the classics (Crimson, Floyd, early Caravan Genesis, early Tull, etc...), I still own the vinyl and best remaster possible, the mini-Lp , sometimes a boxset.
I even own some Crimson 40th (by Wilson), only because of the video content
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

Discogs mentions more versions from Truth In Shredding than from Centrifugal Funk.
I only have the original Legato- and the Tone Centre-versions of both.

I wanted to get one album on every format at one time. I was thinking of getting Santana III because it’s available on reel to reel but I’ve never wanted to spend the money for 8track and reel tapes. I have the original vinyl cd and cassette of it. It always seemed like just a useless waste of money just to say I have all the formats.

I have three imports and I know one of them is a Japanese pressing.
