Sort of generic, but do you think that Nurse with Wound could be a candidate for Big Ears?

    I don’t think they’re a live outfit.

    Am I wrong?

If they were, I feel certain sure they would be a candidate.

NWW does play live, albeit infrequently. Not sure of the most up-to-date roster but at different points it's been Stapleton + Colin Potter, Andrew Liles, Diana Rogerson, and (I think) David Tibet.

I've suggested NWW more than once on the Big Ears "year end" survey, along with Lustmord, Morton Subotnick, and Ulver. But in truth, based on the live recordings I've heard (Soundpooling, for example), I think it would be most interesting from a "ZOMG I'm seeing a legendary act" standpoint as opposed to being the most riveting musical performance.

That was kinda my point in mentioning her, I know her through all your work with her, didn't realize she was in Living By Lanterns, need to pick that up.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

She plays a monster solo on that first track of LBL (Think Tank). Give that one a whirl.

More names? Yep, more names, with more still to come:

    The Comet is Coming (jazz)
Kara-Lis Coverdale (ambient/electronica - big yay for me)
    Yves Tumor (electronica)
    Peter Gregson (classical, electronics)

I am only really familiar with Coverdale in the gang above but all sound pretty intriguing. Here's the email with blurbs on all four:

The Comet is coming is one of Shabaka Hutchings projects, which is always good news.

I hadn't honestly heard of them before, but the writeup has me curious. Hey, if I'm there anyway, why NOT check out something new, right?

Was just rapping with my friend Steve (who may well be lurking in/around these boards...sup Steve!) and he said Yves Tumor was great and intense. So, I'm pretty excited for that one.

    More exciting news ahead...eventually

"As the line up for Big Ears 2019 has come together and taken shape over the past few months, we’ve enjoyed sharing a few of the great artists who will be joining us in March. Now, we’re pressing the pause button as we start to wrap up the full lineup. Our next lineup announcement will come in late September, when we’ll reveal another three dozen or so more artists, along with many more details about the full program for March 21 - 24, 2019."

Lineup announcement tomorrow! Can't wait! Only prediction I have is Thumbscrew...Code Girl is performing...make sense TS performs also, right?

Anyways, purchased early bird GA tickets for me and the wife tonight. This will be our third year in a row. Didn't get a chance to meet up with anyone from here the first two years, hopefully that'll change this year.

  21. #71
Hopefully so! Over the last few years, Big Ears has morphed from not only an awesome music fest, but also a great opportunity to catch up with some familiar faces

I've no idea what to expect from the announcement today; there are a couple of names that I hope they include, but for the most part it's going to be a total surprise.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES Harold Goddamned Budd is back

    https://mailchi.mp/bigearsfestival/m...e?e=21413a802e

Today, we unveil more than 60 of the performances at Big Ears 2019. The range is staggering, from psychedelic rock saviors Spiritualized and Mercury Rev to essential experimental composers Alvin Luicer and Harold Budd, from jazz giants like Jack DeJohnette and Wadada Leo Smith to emerging stars like Mary Halvorson and Sons of Kemet, from breakout stars like Nils Frahm and Yves Tumor to genre-defining legends like Richard Thompson and Bill Frisell. The Art Ensemble of Chicago will celebrate its 50th anniversary under that name at Big Ears 2019, while vocal pioneers Meredith Monk and Joan La Barbara both perform rare concerts of new work. MacArthur fellow Rhiannon Giddens will return to Knoxville for the second performance of her debut ballet, Lucy Negro Redux, while The National’s Bryce Dessner and Roomful of Teeth combine for a stunning new multimedia exploration of the work and legacy of late photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. For the full lineup, visit www.bigearsfestival.org/lineup.

Holy shit - what a ridiculous line-up! It's doubtful I'll be able to trek down there, but if I were living in the vicinity I think I'd get happily overloaded (musically speaking, of course). Cheers to those who are able to attend; I'm sure we'll get full reports here on PE.

Happy with what I have to be happy with.
