    Young drummers

Any drummers under let’s say 50 who have really impressed you? I came up with 3 names. Marco Minnemann and Antonio Sanchez who are 46 and 47 and the new Brand X drummer Kenny Grohowski (not sure of his age but guess not yet 40).

Jonathan Schang of District 97. He's probably in his 20s or at most young 30s.

Not really prog but prog related, Keith Carlock of Steely Dan is stellar. See clips of him doing the song "Aja" for example.

Also Secret Chiefs 3 and some of John Zorn's projects - the guy seems to be able to play anything.

Jonathan is in his 30's... and he definitely gets a vote from me!

Nick D'Virgilio has a few more months until he's 50, so he counts!!

Dave Holland always seems to pick great drummers - he caught onto Marvin Smitty Smith while he was a youngster and Billy Kilson a little later on although he's about 55 now. Right now he has Eric Harland who is all of 41 - definitely worth checking out.

All the kids in this band are really good, and the songwriting is very special.

Both a -bit- more challenging than Brand X as such.

Glenn Kotche, Morgan Ågren, Paal Nilsen-Love, Zach Hill, Keith Abrams, Gabe Serbian, Charlie Zeleny, Dave Bodie and many, many more - from Japan, Argentina, Eastern Europe etc.

Kenny Grohowski was my first thought for his work with the Simulacrum group, Rez Abbasi, etc.

Of those not mentioned: Tyshawn Sorey, Ivan Fedotov (Vespero), Xavi Reija, Gard Nilssen (Starlite Motel, Bushman's Revenge), Seb Rochford (Polar Bear, Sons of Kemet) come readily to mind.
