Interesting, intense game after all. Croatia deserved better than this, but France finally did enough to deserve their victory IMHO.

Generally a really entertaining tournament with plenty of good matches and many surprises. Only France of the preliminary favourites stood up to it. Croatia the big surprise, Belgium and England stood the test. Russia (ranked 70!!) and Sweden (ranked 24) the strongest underdogs!

Croatia created this match most of the time, and the two first french goals were kind of ... duh...

France certainly got the breaks first half and that meant Croatia had to push in the second half which opened up for the France counter attacks and third and fourth goals. Horrible mistake by Lloris for Croatias second. Croatia played really well and deserved more. Pretty good final.

Exactly... France's victory in the final suffers, no discussion

    However, in the semi...

Best two refs of the WC: the Iranan team and the Senegal team.... plus the VAR, which corrected many things, but only delivered four red cards (direct consequence, IMHO), which is a modern-day record.

No idea how to make that pic larger.

A thoroughly enjoyable World Cup, many shocks and surprises, and it showed Russia in a different light from that so often reported.

I was sad at England's semi final exit but the Croatians were superb athletes, great players and had a never say die attitude. I would have liked them to have been the true giant-killers in the final, but it was not to be. The penalty and free-kick decisions were dubious in my view, but France have star quality and are worthy winners.

I am not sure how it will all play out in Qatar next time around. For me the Word Cup defines the summer months, so to have it in November/December in the middle of the Premier League season will be weird, and it feels like 8 years until the next proper one, which seems forever.
