From what I heard of this it seemed like ATW moved away from the sort of Appalachian sound or theme that they had going. I really liked that so wasn't sure of this one, But I'll have to check it out more.

I just got this and am really liking it. I'll strike a middle ground on the originality aspect - I *don't* think it strays all that far from the typical composition of an RIO album, but it's original enough that I'd easily be able to spot it as being Far Corner and not something else. The real difference may be in the drums - they're pretty metal-influenced, IMO, and this gives the music a whole different flavor than what one normally encounters with this kind of music. So, when the Hammond kicks in, the opportunity is there to really make the music burst. Kind of like ELP on steroids, which is saying something for me, because I'm not a huge ELP fan. I was pleasantly surprised to see this album appear.

Only complaint might be the sound - it's mastered really loud, and is very "digital" sounding. IMO chamber prog works best when there's a lot of room for it to breathe.

One that has really captured my attention recently: Umphrey's McGee - It's You. This was released about mid-year as the 'surprise' companion piece to It's Not Us, the album they released in January, and to which I'm still somewhat lukewarm. Certainly compared to the previous album Similar Skin, INU was something of a step down in terms of quality of compositions. It's You, though, really has the band back at the top of its game, and makes me wonder why they didn't just wait and release a single album with the best elements of both.

Last year Talitha Rise has released a wonderful album titled An Abandoned Orchid House. Take pleasure in listening to this live version of Incantation the song from the album.

The Gagliarchives finally did their best of the year show a few weeks ago and here's the list as compiled from various sources. We're pretty happy to have come in 22nd-the highest showing of an independent non-label band and even better if you don't count live albums which IMHO shouldn't be allowed.

This was music of the final 100 discs featured on the Gagliarchives, on Programs 1623 through 1624 (03/23/19 to 03/30/19). Although this is the 'Top 100' of the year, there were over 1500 Progressive Rock related releases in the course of the year, and many genres are represented. This list was compiled through a year's worth of research from myself and all those who contribute in the GPRN. I want to personally thank the thousands of listeners globally, our online listeners both at z889/RCBC, and the listeners at Aural Moon. Also a big thanks to the subscribers to our Facebook and Twitter pages, Progarchives, gnosis2000.net Ken Golden, Asylum Studios, Michael Cohn, Jack Webster, Connie Louis, North 13th Studios, Jason Varga, RCBC Radio, Chad Hutchinson, and our buddies at esurveyspro.
Finalized by Tom Gagliardi and Staff.

Awesome! Do you have its 2015 counterpart Ones & Zeros: vol. 1? If so I think you're mostly "caught up".

That should be interesting for you to hear the V1 themes heard on the “refresher course” track you have already (Reinstall_0verture) once you obtain V1. There’s no “right” way to listen to the albums. Until the Broadway show of course!

Anybody have Tom's Gagliarchives Top 100 charts from past years?

  13. #413
They are “all” in a drop down menu on his website. I think a few recent years are missing (‘15-‘17?)

Right. I tried in vain to find the ones from those years.

Go to the playlists. For example, the Top 100 for 2017 is spanned over 3 playlists (in the 2018 year): Playlist 1574 through 1576. Doesn't look like he did one for 2016 (only did a cursory look). The 2015 top 100 can be found in the last playlist of November 2015 and the first 2 playlists of December 2015.
