rest in peace, Gerard Hourbette (Art Zoyd)

A very, very sad announcement from Art Zoyd.

"The Art Board is deeply saddened to inform you of the death of its composer and director Gérard Hourbette, which took place on Friday, 4 May 2018 at the age of 64
We will have the opportunity to return to the considerable contribution of his work in both composition and writing.
Monique Hourbette-Vialadieu was appointed acting director of Art Zoyd studios."

    Holy christ, wow. Unexpected. RIP.

This is awful! He was too "young" and - from what I reckon - too musically active to go just yet...

Horrible. A fantastic modernist electroacoustic composer swept away by tide.

Nothing but Zoyd this upcoming week or two here. Zoyd only.

Damn. Very saddened by this news.

Time for a full run through of the Cuneiform box set this week. I thought there would be much more to come.

What a shock - I'd been in touch with Gérard regularly over the past months (last time was just over a month ago) as I was doing translations for Art Zoyd, and he was still planning a lot of projects based on what he gave me translate.

That was fascinating to read - I have a much different perspective on Msr Hourbette as a composer and his achievements after reading that. I honestly knew/know very little about the man. Steve, did you have some opportunities to chat with him about music in general at some point(s)?

I met and spoke with him and Monique at RIO 2015, where we discussed the idea of the box and the idea of our doing the box.

We talked business and logistics. We did not get to speak of music, although I DID get to tell him I saw AZ’s only US show.
