Winyterfylleth - the Hallowing Of Heirdom (for fans of acoustic Opeth)

For those of you who like Opeth, and particularly enjoy their quieter acoustic moments, the new album by Winterfylleth might be worth lending an ear to.

The band are more associated with the kind of heavier metal reminiscent of early Opeth, with the same acoustic interludes within the songs. But here on The Hallowing Of Heirdom they’ve gone full acoustic and come up with something rather special.

In some ways, this is their Damnation moment, where they step out of the metal sound and come up with something different but still recognisably the same band. But whereas Damnation has a gloomy gothic feel to it, Hallowing has a more uplifting and nature-friendly vibe, with the lyrics drawn from Anglo-Saxon verse and mythos.

My latest blog post can shed more light on this English band, and why I think this album might appeal to a broader audience of rock fans.

A very interesting recommendation which I'm now checking out - thanks!

The YouTube links don't work in the US, but here's a link to this album on Bandcamp:

Sounds like something I’d like. Downloading from iTunes right now.
