I can't speak for last year, but the year before on the same ship was the weakest of the three I've done (the coming year's ship, as well). The first two had more options and better food. I don't know if that is because as a charter they don't have their standard fare or if they just aren't as good as the other lines. There are pay options that are supposed to be good, but on a trip like this I'm not taking the time to go have a real meal, so we ended up just eating whatever was available and quick.

The food was a touch disappointing this last time, but that doesn't influence my choice to go. Fair question, though.

I didn't have any problems with the food, but maybe I'm not picky. I've never been on a real cruise so I can't compare.

I was always so busy with concerts that most of the time, I would just grab a very quick plate at the buffet and not really pay attention to the test.

Yes is the perfect example of how bands enjoy hanging out with fans - it's up to the individual. You will likely never see Steve Howe and it may not be pleasant if you do. Jon Davidson on the other hand will always be hanging out and seemingly enjoying every second of it.

I've been on 4 Yes cruises, the last one was the first I saw Mr Howe out and about, cruising in the buffet, etc, was surprised as he was a ghost the previous trips. Billy Sherwood is everywhere (I even checked under my bed), it's all the muso's personality, some want the contact others do not but for the most part if you're on the ship gotta figure you're not going to be ignored. Most people are cool with a casual conversation although while riding the lift with Steve H I couldn't think of a thing to say, lol.

It wasn't "bad", but it also wasn't good. The first two I did were on the Divina and the Pearl and both had significantly better food than two years ago. That said, I am not picky in this situation and didn't really care. But, when it was brought up, I did note that it had been better the other two years. I particularly liked eating on the Pearl as the Atrium stage was by a pub where you could order pub fare as part of your pre-paid food and have it made for you while you watched a band. We did that at least twice that I can recall (Holdsworth and Thank You Scientist).

There seems to have been no mention whatsoever of a CTTE pre-cruise party in 2019.
Does anyone know if this has been scrapped this year? - Possibly with the "night before" being a Sunday?
I only ask because it could influence where we book to stay in Tampa for that night.

For the 2017 cruise, they waited a damn long time before releasing any info about the pre-cruise party, so this may well be the same.

I asked and was told there were no contracts in place for Fergs - I didn't take the answer to mean no concert/party, just no set location (we have a hotel down that way, but can change it if necessary). However, if you are concerned and wish to find out, send them an email. They are pretty good at getting back to you when you ask questions.

The potential night before issue isn't that it is a generic Sunday, but it is SuperBowl Sunday which means bars already have stuff going on, I presume. But, even without that, as JKL mentioned, they haven't made official announcements until closer in the past. I'd just ask.

Edit to add - I asked something like six weeks ago, so who knows the answer now. Until we hear otherwise we are keeping our hotel booking downtown.

Also it's a good idea to ask on the Facebook groups, because sometimes someone will get wind of a rumor.

As suggested I sent an email to the CTTE team and, earlier this week, got the following response which I ought to share for those interested:

"We are planning to have a pre-party prior to Cruise to the Edge. However, it won’t be at Ferg’s this year due to a major reconstruction project they will be in the midst of. As soon as we know the new location, we will send an email to all of our guests."

So it looks like a pre-party is on the cards but not yet confirmed.

In other news Strawbs have been added to the OTB line-up which is a plus for me.

I think at this point they just keep Steve Hackett on-board these cruise ships full-time, figuring that's easier than flying him in for EVERY PROG CRUISE EVER!

I love him, it's just funny how he's on every cruise.

Schedules were released yesterday and they did a great job spacing out bands. I have no problem seeing almost everyone I want to see. Not near as many tough decisions.

    Treasure Coast, FL

I can't afford to go to any cruise or festival, but here's a good alternative on the Treasure Coast (Fort Pierce/Port St. Lucie, Jensen Beach, Port Salerno, Stuart)

In order to make prog music more accessible and relevant for modern culture, prog fans need to use Social Media, Istagram seems the best for promotion and is less stressful than Facebook (and lots more fun) and host local events.

I got to listen to this for the first time on Vinyl for Free!

    About The Roasted Record

We are located at 724 S Colorado Avenue Stuart, Florida 34994

Our hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm and Friday and Saturday from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm.

The Roasted Record started on a front porch while roasting coffee on a home roaster, listening to vinyl records, and drinking a few (too many) beers. The origin was a simple blog post of how incredible the sounds and smells were and how enjoyable the process was.

Today The Roasted Record is a retail store and roastery located in Historic Downtown Stuart, Florida. The roastery is a coffee shop and a vinyl record store all in one. This is a tribute to what started it all, the before mentioned night roasting on a porch smelling freshly roasted coffee and listening to vinyl music.

As we grow, we remain committed to the origin of the company; to spread the joy of small batch coffee and the revival of vinyl records to our local community. We are small and will stay small and do things the old fashioned way, by hand and for the sake of craftsmanship.

The bad news..Fish had a family emergency and had to pull out of the cruise.
The good news: Michael Sadler is enroute to Tampa and will be on the bill replacing Fish.

    From Fish's Facebook page:
It is with deep regret and disappointment that I have to announce that I am unable to appear on the ‘Cruise to the Edge’ shows.

A family crisis occurred last week which has necessitated me remaining at home to deal with what are ongoing problems.

The situation is complicated and I can’t elaborate further as they are private family matters but I can say they are too serious to contemplate being away from home for any length of time and especially out of the country. My wife and family need my close support just now and it’s imperative I am here with them.

This has all come as a great shock to me but I have been left with no other option but to cancel my appearance. I can only apologise to those people who were anticipating our performances and both my band and I are distraught at having to pull out at such a late stage having spent so much time and energy making our own arrangements for the trip.

The decision was agonising to make but circumstances are out of my control and I have to focus on what is important in my life. My family must always take precedence.

Once again I am so sorry to let people down so late in the day and I can only hope that I get a chance to make it up to you another time,

    Yours sincerely
    Fish

Very cool of Sadler - what a great guy!

There are all kinds of theories on Facebook, because of the frequent split between Fish-era and h-era Marillion fans. Some of those people have strong feelings - as someone who likes both as well as solo Fish, I'm able to be supportive of it all, and to take Fish at his word.

But some of the people who DON'T really like Fish are saying things like they never expected him to actually show up, or that he really has other reasons for not appearing. It all kind of sounds like conspiracy theories to me, but in a sense I can understand since Fish has often had problems with tours/concerts (I also understand their disappointment, since some of them if even more h-fans were looking forward to see what Fish would be like). But he has a lot planned for the next two years, so I don't think he'd scuttle anything if avoidable. So I wish him and his family well, and hope things work out well for them.

Just saw that CTTE 2019 is delayed - I think people are boarding now and they won't embark until around 7pm. I have no idea what the hold up is. They're going to circulate a revised schedule for tonight one they embark. This is the kind of thing I just would want to avoid. Sounds like a big hassle, for the bands too. I wonder what happened?

EDIT: Actually, it sounds like they aren't BOARDING until about 8pm. Yikes!

EDIT AGAIN: Couldn't tell if this was the reason or not because the damned website doesn't date their stories, but apparently this was it - delayed for two days by fog!:

Who steers the ship through the stormy sea
If hope is lost then so are we
While some eyes search for one to guide us
    Some are staring at me
    But I'm no hero
Though I wish I could be
For I am just a boy,
    Too young to be sailing
    I am just a boy,
    And my future is unveiling
And I'm so frightened of failing

Yeah, see the link I posted from the Florida news site. The ship eventually had to be escorted under a bridge, and a bunch of people had to sleep on the ship overnight because hotels were all booked.

A bit of a clusterf*ck for attendees, crew, and especially bands who had less time than usual to lug their equipment on board. I feel for everyone, that's not how you want a voyage to begin! But they seem to have taken it well, and did eventually get some music last night (Marbin was the only band I heard mentioned).

Well, wishing them smooth sailing and few band conflicts. And good eggs at the buffet...

Sounds like the band lineup was great. I've never done a cruise, but if I was going to this would be down my alley. Hope it is smooth sailing here on out.

By then they were no longer considered Neo-Prog.

The savings on fog machines will push this year's fest into the black.
