YES- Fly From Here - The Return Trip

Just in my inbox, the Pledge Music site has launched offering the vocal re-recording and remix of Yes' Fly From Here album, by the "Drama Lineup". Seems it's not really exclusive to the Fan Convention after all.

I love Drama and the tone of the material from it and FFH. glad that this endcaps that creative burst from this specific version of Yes. tidy

Aside from the new(?) track, "Don't Take No for an Answer," I just don't understand the purpose of this.

But I'll probably buy it, as I really like the album and I'm an OCD completist.

They don't offer any reason for the remix or the new vocals. I don't know why this is being done, did they ever give a reason? I would have thought they'd at least remove Bumpy Ride.

I'm interested in the vinyl version, but Side B will be around 27:15 plus however long "Don’t Take No For An Answer" is, I wonder how they'll make that work.

Wow, they even photo-shopped Benoit David out of the group photo. That's cold man, just cold.

Is there a vinyl version of the original album? If so, that may become more valuable after this remaster comes out. If there's a vinyl edition of the remaster, will there be people here who have both versions on vinyl? That'd be kind of extreme and awesome.

Apparently they consulted with The Moody Blues on the best way to do that.

Well, since they've mixed out his vocals and added Trevor Horn's, why would Benoit David's photo need to be on the album? Was he involved in any of the writing process? I can't recall whether or not he had anything to do with the writing of "Into The Storm".

I'm sure Henry will chime in with an authoritative answer, but I believe Benoit David was consulted before the project began and gave his blessings.

I'm interested but might hold back until some reviews get posted.
I would hope the album would be an improvement over the original FFH but I'll wait and see.

One small thing that I think I might comment on at this stage is the cover - another excellent Roger Dean and sympathetic to the original FFH. However...this is the worst example to date of the Yes logo and album title clashing with the detail of the painting. On the early RD album covers the text was usually located to the benefit of the artwork (often within the sky) but in this example it clashes badly with the trees.
Coincidently the worst clash previously was on the original FFH cover!
It kind of suggests that an existing painting has been selected/adapted rather than a cover painting being commissioned from scratch for the purpose.

I still think the H&E logo is the worst.

Maybe that FLAC download is looking like a better option...

This makes sense to me. They are basically doing what they should have done in the first place but obviously couldn't then. I like the Benoit version, but he was totally aping Horn's demos, so what not just cut to the chase?

I'm curious to hear about the bonus track. Can anyone describe it musically?

Is the cover art any different for this re-boot?

I'm in the same boat. I love FFH and Benoit's vocals are just right. They really make the album what it is. I can't imagine Horn's vocals in this timescape will be an improvement but I'll give it a go when released.

I suppose they COULD have, but Benoit was the singer at the time and the guy that would (supposedly) have to tour it. Horn sure wasn't going to.
