Thanks for posting some links, I followed some of the earlier stuff from their YT page. Unfortunately, I don't do Spotify.
I also found the album V on Amazon US and you can get a download there, and I listened to some samples.
I really like the Grander Vision album tracks from 1994.

No Turn On Red from 1987. A New York band, iirc. I haven't cataloged it on Discogs yet, so...

No big deal, I probably shouldn't have said anything but I appreciate your post informing us about Relayer's new release which is available for download on Amazon. Kind of wish they'd gone the bandcamp route to provide a Wav or Flac download. I don't do Spotify or iTunes.

I think I picked up A Grander Vision based on the same criteria as the OP. Although an OK listen because it's basically a obvious pastiche of influences, I found the production a bit amateurish and I remember it having a sequenced sound to it. The vocals were fine but not a stand-out.

I only listened to the 1 song I posted, but thought it was fine. I find the production to be similar to other groups of the time period such as Illuvatar, where bands didn't have big budgets for expensive studios,so they used local studios or for some they recorded themselves. Could be wrong tho, I couldn't tell what record company released it.

Relayer has released their sixth album, Broken Branches.
Plenty to love here.

Relayer
Relayer’s sixth release reflects the hope and determination of a broken America. Intelligent melodic rock at its finest.
Chicago-based band formed in 1993 by childhood friends Tom Burke, Tim LaRoi, and John Sahagian.
They released their debut Grander Vision in December 1994 which featured progressive pleasers “Anyone” and “The River”. After adding Milwaukee-based drummer Bill Kiser (who also happens to be John’s cousin) in January 1995, Relayer started writing new, more ambitious material for their follow up album The Teething Fashion. While attending ProgFest in Los Angeles in late ’95, the band signed distribution partnerships with Angular Records (Germany) and Musea (Japan), which expanded the band’s reach internationally.
Band Line-Up:
Tom Burke (bass)
Bill Kiser (drums)
Tim Laroi (guitar/keys)
John Sahagian (vocals/keys)
