Yeah, Lockwood was one of the monsters on his instrument.
Plenty of great Youtube vids of him playing in many styles.
Way too young.

And if there were a god, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence - Russell

Stellar player. Major loss!
RIP and thanks for everything.
I go one day without turning on the computer, and one of my favorite violinists dies. Rest in peace, Didier Lockwood.
We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973
Great loss.
One of the bands he was in was Volkor:
And I wish the concert of A Gathering Of Minds, which saw him with Allan Holdsworth, David Sancious, Jack Bruce and Billy Cobham gets an official release.
Thanks for this - never heard that before! I did a little research to find this and turns out there never was a band called Volkor. That track in the video - and the whole album -actually was released under the band name "Lockwood" (which was Francis and Didier's band together), album called "Jazz-Rock".
When Musea reissued "Jazz-Rock" and Francis Lockwood's solo "Debbi" albums together on one CD, due to contractual problems it was released under the name Volkor, a track title from Jazz Rock.
I'm surprised he was so young actually. I think I might like him best on ZAO's Kawana album.

Crap. Really liked him. I just picked up a used 1984 Didier Lockwood Group LP a week ago and haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.

"MARKLAR!"
So sorry to hear this. He was tremendous. I came to know his music after a friend recommended him when I mentioned I'd like more along the lines of Ponty. That was the "Surya" album. Have been a fan ever since.
He played electric and acoustic violin on that Kawana album by Zao but also something called an artisanal bass violin.

an early obscure Prog album with Didier
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
Thanks for sharing the Lockwood and Synthesis samples. As a result I ordered copies of both. There is so much good music out there, it blows my mind. I've been buying music since the mid-to-late 70's and I'm still discovering absolute gems. The world is a big place full of incredible music. Thanks to Didier Lockwood for contributing to that. Rest In Peace, DL.
Oh well - that's life - my favorite solos of his are on Magma live 'Kontark 1&2' seriously weird and inventive....
