Kind of a big deal for me. He did quite a bit of soundtrack work, as well as some lovely albums like Fordlandia and Orpheus.
Was lucky enough to see him at Big Ears last year. Very sad that he has passed.

Terribly sad. No more great music from the Icelandic master. Fordlândia and The Miners' Hymns are especially good.
Seconded. "The Cause of Labour Is the Hope of the World" is a terrifically uplifting tune, and the rest of The Miners' Hymns is great too. Fordlandia has a lot of that same simple emotional grandeur and Englabörn is very good in a different, more low-key way.Originally Posted by helicase
