DIRT POOR ROBINS (riyl The Dear Hunter/The Family Crest)

This is a very strong recommendation for people who enjoy The Dear Hunter.

I honestly have heard dozens and dozens of bands who were compared-to or for-fans-of The Dear Hunter over the years, and only a handful are artists I really enjoy if not LOVE.

This band very well may be the most impressive band I've heard in many years, with their latest record "The Raven Locks Act 3"

They are from Louisville, KY I guess, which may not mean much, but maybe some folks around here could be familiar?

    bump.

I cannot get enough of this band! The songwriting and melodies keep drawing me back.

They're so good. From the production, to the instrumentation, to the vocal arrangements, to even a cool concept, they keep winning me over.

Quite possible the best new band I've discovered in 4 or 5 years.

    1 of my favorites

I remember running across them before, on Spotify I think. I remember being impress too, tho I didn't pick up their music.

Of all the bands that frequently get recommended to fans of The Dear Hunter, this is one of the best in my opinion. I think they've gotten better with every single release, and I'm very excited to see what they do next now that they've finished the The Raven Locks trilogy.

A Live Stream on Facebook they talk about their 2019 plans:
    https://www.facebook.com/dirtpoorrob...video_explicit

-New Series of EP's coming in 2019, including the 1st in January.

-New Concept which sounds a little like Westworld (a futuristic Western?)

-Graphic Novel coming, I'm presuming about The Raven Locks.

    -Merch coming

Oh, that sounds really cool actually! I didn't know they'd made a whole series of videos explaining the story of The Raven Locks either, I'll have to check that out sometime.

Bump. I finally picked these up digitally. (I asked them via Messenger if they had CDs and they said not since 2011. ) These are really, really good. Highly recommended for fans of Dear Hunter, Bent Knee, etc.

    very cool!

yeah the only physical copy I got was for The Raven Locks Act I which is actually not officially authorized if I recall.

They posted the artwork for Dead Horse a few weeks ago, although us fans are anxiously awaiting for the 1st 2 tracks that Neil and Kate talked about a few months ago (2 tracks in April).

Release date coming soon for our new record Dead Horse.

The first release is ready and waiting for you!

We are using a new distributor and it’s been a little tricky getting all of the in a row for a release date.

    Good news though...

Our first installment will be 4 songs instead of 2 and out in around a a month’s time. We decided to do 3 EPs instead of 2 songs a month. It felt weird only giving out two songs at a time and we figured you would want a little more to sink your into.

    Stay tuned !!!!

Well, that's exciting for a new fan like me. I'm confused on the release, though. It's another trilogy? But, short releases?

What is their plan for Dead Horse? Is it a series of EPs? Or that's it?

the update above says 3 EPs, so this is 1st with 2 more coming in the Dead Horse concept. Similar to The Raven Locks.

But yeah this EP is great. Every tune is strong. Great ending choruses in All There is and Skywriter especially.

Thanks - "He also reveals that (Red) is the first of three connected EPs. Specifically, he classifies this one as having a "prog/pop focus", whereas the next one, (Gold), will slant more toward a "trippy/classical/cinematic" feeling. As for the last one, (Black), it'll be "more driving, with a harder edge". Once they all come out, they'll be combined into a comprehensive longer statement with altered sequencing and previously unreleased selections."

Looks like I will have to buy it twice. Interesting also that he called Red "prog/pop".

    From Facebook:

    In case you missed it...

I’ve been doing the original music for a True Crime podcast called “Culpable”. It’s been a blast mainly because the content is so riveting. I recommend checking it out sometime soon if you haven’t already.

    In the meanwhile...

I just uploaded the theme song to our YouTube channel. Take a gander

I’m not sure I have ever approached recording with as much discipline and emotion as I have this year. I can’t wait to share this with you next month.

That's cool. I was looking for CD previously but he told me they hadn't done CDs since 2011. Not sure if I would spring for the CDs if the material is the same. But I would take a good hard look if it had anything extra.
