Good Day to all from Snowy New York City.
Being that I'm mostly on Facebook most of the time, the "Progressive Rock" and "Genesis" boards often have scathing posts in regards to Van Der Graaf Generator, some so comically replied that I still have a hard time seeing the hate.
I am still in awe seeing the band way back in 2012 where I met and spoke briefly to Jim aka Bucka001 about the show and his book.
I've mentioned that many years ago a gentleman at a book store I used to frequent in The Village and he basically stated like this, "Van Der Graaf Generator will not be a easy listen, you have to think about crossing Genesis via
Trespass and King Crimson via
In The Wake Of The Poseidon and you will perhaps get what Van Der Graaf Generator sounds like. He recommended
Pawn Hearts as the album I should listen to which I purchased and didn't like it at all upon the first listen, yet I did purchase
He To He... and
The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other and absolutely fell in love with those two albums. I would go on to complete the (then) rest of the band's catalog and having a myriad of love for both the band and Peter's solo material.
Now it would be unfair to suggest that everyone should love this band, but like Jim I've come to listen to VdGG more than I do Genesis (although I will never forsake them) or the majority of the "Big Six" (Pink Floyd, Yes, King Crimson, Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Jethro Tull) bands.
Please explain your love or hatred for this band, if that's a fair question of where I'm heading with this post.
