My bad, Kevin. I meant "Casey", who is an MD and huge Mets fan who posted right before you. Bad ambiguity on my part.

    I'm here.

I very well remember '69. When Cleon took that knee, I ran out to my front yard screaming at the top of my lungs!!!

Yanks just put Sabbathia on the 10-day DL. Just another of the many injuries on that team. Yet they've been able to keep a good record. If only the Bosox would lose once in a while.

The Red Sox seem to be fortunate with the season's rhythms of injuries - Devers & Sale just off the DL, Swihart & Kinsler likely to return this week, Rodriguez recovering ahead of schedule, & Wright also a possible returnee prior to October.

A week or two ago, I said something about Severino looking like he might be hitting a wall. You responded that you didn't think this was justified. After another poor outing last night, what are your thoughts on his health? If he's not suffering fatigue, do you think there might be a mechanical issue?

And how do you think the various trials & tribulations afflicting the Yankees starting rotation impact on their play-off aspirations?

Severino certainly is a mystery right now. I'm in no position to speculate, but it wouldn't be the first time a player kept quiet about an injury and tried to play through it. They seem to think he's healthy. So, your guess is as good as mine. I'm hoping it's mechanical, like tipping off his pitches.

Re: the playoffs, I still think a WC birth is theirs to lose. The current schedule has them playing against a lot of weaker teams, but they aren't taking advantage of it yet. Ironically, when they had a stretch against top teams a while back, they killed. I am no fan of the one-game playoff, but it looks like that's their only hope at this point, as long as the Red Sox keep winning. But, it's baseball, so anything can happen.

Brewers could come out of their 2 game series w/the Cubs as good as 1 game out of first or as bad as 5 games out of first hanging on to a WC spot by their fingernails.

Cubs throw Quintana and Hendricks against the Brew Crew, which could go in any number of possible directions. I'm glad the games are at Wrigley South.

Don't look now, but the Cardinals are one of the hottest teams in the majors this side of Boston, 7 in a row, 10 of the last 12, and are now 5 GB in Division, 2 GB in WC races. Mostly on the back of the league leader in HR (33), SLG, OPS (.989) and TB, Matt Carpenter, who has clearly thrust himself into the NL MVP mix.
Another go ahead 3 run dinger last night in 8th, before Cards then gave up lead in top of 9th, setting the stage for another walk off HR win in bottom of 9th by DeJong vs Nats (2 walk off HR losses in a row for them).

During an August 17, 1957 game, the Phillies' Richie Ashburn hit a foul ball into the stands that struck spectator Alice Roth, wife of Philadelphia Bulletin sports editor Earl Roth, breaking her nose. When play resumed, Ashburn fouled off another foul ball that struck her while she was being carried off on a stretcher.

Ashburn and Mrs. Roth maintained a friendship for many years, and the Roths' son later served as a Phillies batboy.

The Mets should have traded DeGrom to Milwaukee. But, the Mets have no fucking idea of what they're doing, so....
