Glad I'm not alone in not being a (huge) fan of The Beatles. They had some good tracks but there is a lot I can throw away.
For a few of my faves:
A Day in the Life
Here Comes The Sun
Yesterday
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
We Can Work It Out
Come Together
Elanor Rigby
Something
In My Life
Helter Skelter
I do own the mono and stereo box sets of The Beatles.
I happen to love Helter Skelter. Come on, a Beatles heavy metal tune! Even by today's standards I find it to be quite the heavy tune. 'Birthday" is not exactly a work of art, but its fun. I guess I've been a fan for so long and these songs are so much a part of my life that I just don't find much fault in very many songs. I used to almost like Revolution #9 back when I thought they did it to be funny. that view changed when I found out John and Yoko were attempting some kind of artistic statement. Can't listen to it anymore. And there are some very early tunes of theirs that are just plain hokey. I will say I've gained a greater appreciation for their early work in recent years. I used to only concern myself with their work from Help on through the end. But I do enjoy quite a few of those songs from 63 and 64 now.
There's a longer 'You Know My Name' on one of the 'Anthology' sets. I've always found it an enjoyable bit of nonsense.
And I Love Her

There are a few things I'm not crazy about on 'The Beatles'- 'Savoy Truffle', 'Honey Pie' and 'Piggies' have never been favourites, for a start, those songs I've always found very lightweight. In that period for instance George had the song 'Sour Milk Sea' which he gave to Jackie Lomax that was done with 3/4 of The Beatles, and also 'Not Guilty' I think is a strong one (though it was rather laboured over in the studio), 'Circles' which he returned to in the 80s is quite intriguing as well- those are better songs IMHO. But there's not that much I dislike considering the length of the album.
'Revolution 9' I now think is integral to the album and perhaps the most radical thing any big-selling act of any stripe ever put on an album. To follow that with 'Good Night' as well!
My Top Five:
Martha My Dear - probably my favorite Beatles song. Just a great mood. Very original.
Fixing A Hole - maybe my 2nd favorite Beatles song. Love the mood.
