Enslaved gets me pumpin'!
BTW, that Insanity workout? Well named. Totally insane. But totally ROCKS!!! One of the hardest things you can ever do but what a feeling of accomplishment as you start getting better and better at it. The day after doing Insanity, I feel 10 years younger.

Oddly enough, Johnny Unicorn (keyboardist of the band Phideaux) has made the first progressive rock exercise album! I haven't heard it yet, but if you're interested, you can check it out here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...ubsequent-tour

Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world.
Hate the music at the gym too but usually just deal with it unless I'm on the stationary bike or working out at home. Ozric Tentacles, any of the live Genesis albums, love Tony Banks Curious Feeling. I like the change of pacing throughout that album. I don't like to be behind the beat for too long. I also don't care for anything that's too fast or too aggressive to workout to. Examples are albums that I really enjoy but not for workouts like Mahavishu Orchestra (name any of them ) and KC's Starless and Bible Black. Thought I was going to hurl. At times things that build, usually instrumental or can get "lost in" like the above OT or Tangerine Dreams early works. Or albums like Peter Gabriel's Up where I can really get into the lyrics. It helps the time pass. YMMV
Thank you all for the excellent suggestions! For all my love of going to the gym for the past several years, I haven't been there since asking this question.
I am hoping I can get there today. Definitely better armed - I'm dying to try out your suggestions. It's funny, many of them I have on my ipod and do find good - but seriously need some new blood. I think I've found it!
