AS a dutch I have to nominate our own Wende Snijders. She sang in French, Dutch and English. I think for this crowd its best to post a video in English:

I recommend her album Last Resistance

And now for something completely different; From the faerŲer islands comes EivÝr. My wife is a big fan. She also sings in English but I like her best when she sings in her native tongue:

    I recommend the album SlÝr

LAst but not least : Nathalie Joachim. She is classical trained flute player and known as a member of the contemporary chamber orchestra Eighth Blackbird. She released a solo album this year based on the music of her home country Haiti.

yes, it’s all very much from within the post rock & metal / shoegaze / math realm which has all but superseded prog in my listening choices to an extent now. will check out yours as well.

From Japan, there’s “city pop” diva Mariya Takeuchi, who had a “sleeper” hit via Youtube in “Plastic Love,” a song she recorded in 1984 for her album Variety. She’s married to singer-songwriter Tatsuro Yamashita, who wrote this song (incidentally, I also recommend his album For You):

And I’ve already gone on elsewhere on my love for the incomparable Hiroko Taniyama, sort of the Japanese kayōkyoku precursor to Kate Bush you didn’t know existed—until now:

Confirmed Bachelors: the dramedy hit of 1883...

Anastasia Minster released her second album Father earlier this year, featuring Steve Jansen on three tracks.

She also does covers, like King Crimson's Moonchild:

This is from her first album:

Count me as another Anna Von Hauseolff fan. Would love the chance to see her live sometime.

I just scrolled through this thread and found some good suggestions so far. Emily Bezar was unknown to me and I like what I hear.

My favorite current singsong women is not mentioned yet: Julia Holter! How is that possible?

She is a 'progressive' artist, although certainly not prog, and her stuff can get pretty experimental. Here are two of her more accessible songs. She is amazing.
