No threads are sacred.
RIP threads don't have to be exclusively the domain of happy thoughts and memories. On the flip side (and not shockingly), the majority of posters are likely to be fans AND emotionally charged about losing an artist that meant something to them.
Speaking strictly for myself...if I'm not directly invested in the deceased (i.e. I knew them as a person, or admired them as an artist) I don't comment. If I'm curious about their work but unfamiliar, I'll start a separate thread or just go do some Googling.
I don't think anyone is wrong for acknowledging a passing while being less than a big fan, but I suspect we can all also recognize and understand if those who ARE fans might be a bit more defensive about this subject than usual in that moment.
