Wilson only remixed Damnation. Deliverance was remixed by Pineapple Thief's Bruce Soord.

Remastering this, Songs From the Big Chair and Simple Minds - Sparkle in the Rain are odd choices because the originals were produced so well.

People collect all kinds of things, don't they.

Im sure mr. Wilson would appreciate if people
learn the difference between remix and remaster!
With the new issue of PROG we have the article
on Gentle Giant, were they write that he "remastered several albums"
    And now this!
Would help if you change the title of the thread as even some members on this forum
    dont know the difference.

Anyhow, remove Roxy Music, as that one will not be used in the upcoming box!

Well, how good the original production is, apparently, besides the point. I think it's more about motivating the record buying public (ie us) to hand over more hard earned cash.

SW's 5.1 mix will be part of the boxed set, but presented in a lossy DTS format.

I was talking about the stereo remix

Steven Wilson says himself that his primary interest in remixing these ancient albums is to have them in surround.

    Only on 8-track and 56kbps mp3.
If it isn't Krautrock, it's krap.

I usually listen to the original mixes even in cases where there are problems with the sound (Chicago II, Aqualung). However, I've bought some of the Tull sets because I'm interested in the extra material and liner notes, and because I'm curious about the different perspective SW brings to the albums.

Does anyone know why including these 5.1 mixes in a lossy format has become a thing (or maybe it always has been)? It doesn't really matter to me, but it obviously does to a lot of people.

Personally I don`t mind lossy DTS.
But Dolby surround is similar to 128kbps mp3 - it sucks, and you dont have to be a snake-oil drinking audiophile in order to hear the difference (and most processors have lower volume for Dolby for some reason, so it doesnt add to the enjoyment- but even after volume matching, it just sounds like crap)

The 5.1 mix exists in a lossless format somewhere, after SW went to the trouble of creating it. Fans of the 5.1 format have paid good money for their set-ups and will be paying a pretty premium for this boxed set. Discerning fans want the best available version of the music, and in this case someone has chosen to deliver a compressed version of the 5.1 music files to make room for the video files. I do not know whether it's a DVD-5 or a DVD-9 being used (I suspect the former), but for the premium price being asked for this collection they should have offered the 5.1 in lossless and used a DVD-9 to make the more room. In fact, if this was the definitive edition, it should have been a Blu-Ray, with the 1999, flat and SW stereo masters/remixes in hi-res alongside the lossless 5.1 mix. Lossy is a perjorative term in music circles for a good reason.
