RIP Johnny Halliday - France under shock

Though it was expected for the last couple of months , RIP anyways

The Belgian-born French singer (Jean Philippe Smet was his real name and his farther died poor in Brussels) was some kind of god for lower-class France

my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

Jimmy Page as well played for Johnny (studio sessions)
Vannier composed for him as well.

There was major strife between the father & the son.... The father was an unreliable drunk, and the son hated him... and never lifted the slightest finger to help his genitor when the man almost dies in the streets (so goes the Brussels legend)

this is about as big as Bowie, Jackson, Cohen or Prince on the French-scale, but it escapes the frontiers... Nt sure it's global, but it speads over a couple of continents anyways

Plenty of Johnny look-alikes too , just like for Elvis

My point is I've never heard of him. I'm sorry he died, but not I'm not grief-stricken over it. The eyeroll was meant to convey this YMMV attitude.

    Here's a US-enabled edition for us yanks:

I guess from the land of Serge Gainsbourg, François Hardy, Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour & Jacques Dutronc this sort of music is not unexpectedly popular.

You're asking yourself what your point was? That is some wild wacky (but understandable) stuff.....

So was this guy like the Barry Manilow of France? RIP

I've always been a fan of his cover of this piece of classic Southern Rock.

I was asking the poster at the end of the chain, who's post was directed to me as you can see if you look further up the thread. But I know you're brand new here.

RIP. I never heard of him either. He was probably more Billy Fury, or Johnny Gentle.

Oh ok, thanks. I guess I got confused because you quoted yourself (in addition to 2 others)when you asked what the point was. Thanks for showing me the ropes. This interwebs stuff is some tricky shit sometimes.

Yeah, you can quote multiple posts so that your post has all the context to stand on its own, and it's quite commonly done here. It's pretty obvious to most that if someone quotes a conversation that includes themselves, they're well versed with their own contribution and wouldn't be asking themselves a question if a question is asked. But there's almost always an outlier who is completely flummoxed or a troll.
