This video makes apparent how it was done!

Then there's Bernie Krause's "Gorillas in the Mix," an album of music made entirely of sampled animal sounds.

Cobra handling and cocaine use are a bad mix.

And Gentlemen Without Weapons. But I didn't think "animal sounds sampled into a keyboard" fit the thread title so well, so I removed the GWW video I initially posted.

Not true. Birds learn their calls very young, and from then on always sing the same song. Musicians who do this end up guesting on "The Love Boat."

Crows and ravens (corvids) have the ability to imitate other birds' calls, or other sounds in their environment. But there's little evidence they use this ability to compose original music.

The Thai Elephant Orchestra is really about the only TRUE example of animals creating music. The elephants were provided with instruments appropriate to their anatomy, and taught how to use the instruments -- but after that, all of the Harry Partch-like percussion that resulted was totally directed by, composed by and performed by the elephants without human direction. Dogs howling at the piano or harmonica doesn't really count, in my opinion. Howling is a social activity, not a creative one.
