Had a friend at work that actually renamed the track "Metal Health" as "Mental Health", because he thought it was a typo.

I just kept thinking to myself, 'Yeah, that's the joke."

Now I always sing to myself, "Mental health, it'll drive you mad!"

Fripp & Eno - An Index of Metal(s)

...(not that Fripp & Eno were an '80's metal band but at least I tossed in a Prog-related entry regarding a song with the word Metal in it)

And, of course, Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music

The list of rock bands who've recorded songs with the word 'rock' in them would takes pages to document. April Wine might have 10 or 15 by themselves.

I don't know how they fare among readers here but - despite the ridiculous paraphernalia surrounding them - I consider them one of the best and most authentic metal bands of the 80's. The first 4 albums are a pure joy. They were consistently ripped-off by far lesser bands of the genre. IMO.

Not technically an '80's metal band, but they capture that spirit so well....

Absolutely. I heard their music on a college radio station that played metal all weekend, before I knew what they looked like or their stage outfits.

I only have one album by Manowar. Garden Dreamer knows which one. I like it. It's even proggy. The Achilles epic reminds me of 2112 kinda.

That one is o.k. but you need to hear Into Glory Ride and Hail to England. It doesn't get any heavier than this. Bone-crushing stuff.

Really, no Heavy Metal Shuffle yet?

    What a chorus!
