    Muhal Richard Abrams-RIP

Sadness.Just read that pianist Muhal Richard Abrams passed away Sunday.Abrams was a founding/charter member of the Chicago based group Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians(AACM).

I had the pleasure of seeing Muhal live in performance on several occasions in NYC over the years, in various groups, solo to orchestra.

I'll spin his early Delmark albums, starting with Levels And Degrees of Light and Young At Heart/Wise In Time. These were the first albums by Muhal my friend turned me onto, way back when.

RIP and thanks for the music.

Ah, hell no! I saw Muhal play at the Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz festival, and I had many of his discs with AACM members-a ll were superb.

Aww man. I love Muhal's work and he was probably my favorite from the AACM scene. Thank you for the music.

I saw him play a benefit concert to raise money for Jimmy Lyons' medical bills. He had Archie Shepp on sax - a truly inspired and inspiring performance. Shame, he was a great composer too.

I caught him there as well, and a number of times in NYC. In addition to his music, the AACM was/is no joke; a real accomplishment.

    RIP
