I blame Wynton, what was the question?
There are only 10 types of people in the World, those who understand binary and those that don't.
This hurts.Bad.His playing and his contributions to the bands he was in meant(means) so much to me.He had a "sound" all his own.Distinctive and unmistakable
RIP and thanks for the music.

Real sad about this. In the admittedly small sub-genre, he was a giant. Condolences to family and friends.
Sorry to hear this. Rest in peace, Phil.

Sad to hear this. Was just listening to Matching Mole last night.
Terrible news! Say hi to Pip for us, Phil.

I always loved his playing. From the first instant I heard it. It may have been "somewhat technically flawed" (quote from an earlier thread in here) on odd occasion, but so perfectly invested with intense presence and personality that it appeared to level out the stakes either way. He reminded me of equally original players like Cipollina and (Glenn) Phillips in that respect. Delivery, Mole, Hatfield, Health, Cahoots. And more. Before a Word Is Said, on which his performance is absolutely stellar and self-assured. I'm doing all of them this weekend. And little else, I suspect.
These are troubled times. And very sad ones to boot.

Still one of my all time favorites - a very unique player and from what I'm told a super nice human being all around. Sad day.
Ugh, terrible news, very saddened to hear this. Phil plays on so many albums I enjoy so much. He had a quirky, singular style, very much his own, straddling both jazz and rock. He left a great musical legacy of which he should be proud.

Speechless. So thankful for so much beauty. Thank you Phil Miller. RIP
very sad, one by one (too) many of "our" heroes are leaving us....
Sad news, his guitar tone will ring tonight. RIP Phil.
"Always ready with the ray of sunshine"
Oh God. Another one of my heroes gone far too young. Just yesterday it popped into my head why haven't we had a new In Cahoots CD in several years.
Seeing In Cahoots live at Progman 15 years ago (time flies!) was definitely a major bucket-list event for me. The highlight of a great weekend.
RIP
So sad
RIP Phil
(Sigh)
Another great gone. Thanks for all the music, Phil.

Dang. I was just listening to Short Wave.
His tone defines an important segment of my music collection.

“A Man Who Does Not Read Has No Appreciable Advantage Over the Man Who Cannot Read” - Mark Twain
My heart just sank reading this thread. Absolutely gutted. One of my FAVORITE guitarists - he was incredibly inventive in his approach to comping as well as soloing. Always a beautiful and interesting "searching" quality in his phrasing, and in his prime he possessed exquisite tones. He played in some of the finest bands of the era, and these groups were so lucky to have his company. RIP old boy and thanks for the amazing music - your gift to the music I love so dearly cannot be quantified in any way.
PS - This man played on my favorite album of all time...

He's with Pip now. RIP Phil. Never got to cross him off my bucket list. Will spin Green And Purple from his Cutting Both Ways album. Some In Cahoots stuff too.
