The moments I love are some of my very favorite from across the franchise thus far: the whole opening battle, nearly everything with Luke's story arc & his interactions with Rey, the scene with Yoda, the throne room sequence, the hyperspace crash, Luke's ending, the rest of the ending...

Edit: just for the sake of balance...the structure of time is really wonky in TLJ. Arcs that apparently are supposed to be happening simultaneously couldn't possible play out along similar timeframes in my mind. The casino thing is kind of meh. Carrie Poppins...yeah, no, LOL. Del Toro is great in anything but the DJ role felt too developed to just be a glorified cameo, but also too rushed to be a really complete story arc. Felt similarly about Holdo.

I suspect the Mandalorian is going to be slightly anthology-style, just based on the very wide range of directors announced thus far. But anything with Waititi behind the camera is going to be worth a watch, IMHO.

I'm in the camp where SW doesn't have to be the greatest films of all time, it just needs to be fun and keep me entertained (because at the end of the day, it's still just wizards with laser swords in SPAAAAAAAACE). So at this point, I'm still quite happy to watch anything new from the franchise.
To me, the casino scenes were unnecessary. It was more of a socio-political statement IMO than a coherent addition to the storyline.

HOWEVER, as I said before, Disney taking the franchise from Lucas was a positive thing because Lucas probably would have had tapdancing stormtroopers or some nonsense.

I do not have a problem because many of the newer people coming to Star Wars were not around for the first trilogy, so they get to experience what we felt with the first.

I finally watched Solo. While I don't think the lead got the Harrison Ford smirk and swagger right, it was a pretty entertaining film. Glover does get that Billy Dee Williams groove going. Woody seemed just a little out of his element. Phoebe Waller-Bridge as L3 was a hoot. Essentially, it's a heist film and for the most part it works well. There's certain touchstones and themes to tie it back to and some of those get to be a reach. But the heist and the double crosses work well.

has anyone noticed the same things happen in each Trilogy?
The Last Jedi was a let down for me. i expected more, not more of the same.
they had a good chance to kill off Leah, but they didn't...
how will she be in the 9th installment if Carrie Fisher died?
and i'm guessing that Rey & Kylo are twins.

Apparently they had a ton of unused footage and scenes that didn't make it into the previous two films so they were able to incorporate those into the story. We'll see how seamless it looks. And if they needed Carrie's vocals...well, no one does Mama's voice better than Billie Lourd, who was already in the cast.

But no, I don't think The Last Jedi was more of the same. It deconstructed a lot of the tropes that had come to be integral to Star Wars. That's one of the reasons it was so divisive among fans.

The train heist in Solo was outstanding. The balance of the movie had good elements but structurally it was kind of a mess. The big set pieces were too distant from the actual plot climaxes (for example, the last real set piece was the Kessell Run, but then we had Enfys Nest revelation, Dryden Vox conclusion, Beckett conclusion, THAT ONE CAMEO THAT MADE SENSE TO CLONE WAR FANS AND NO ONE ELSE, and even the Lando/Falcon conclusion.

Not that anyone at Lucasfilm asked my opinion, but I would have reworked the plot sequence to consolidate more of those elements closer together (for example, have the Dryden Vos/Beckett conclusions play out ON Kessell rather than afterwards).

That's just me armchair critiquing of course. It's the film we got, for better or worse. It was IMHO a minor SW film, better than 2/3 of the prequels but nowhere close to the other films. If it had been a series on Disney+ instead of a film, it'd probably be a hit.

Like Force Awakens lots, LOVED Last Jedi tons, and can't wait for Rise of Skywalker, and enjoying Mandalorian. My inner 10 year old is having a ball with all this new SW fun.

The bit where Luke brushes off his shoulder in Last Jedi was one of the best "fuck yeah" moments in the entire series.

^ Yeah. That was one of my favorite scenes from that movie.

I agree with you on Solo. Considering all the behind-the-scenes turmoil, I think it turned out much better than it had any right to actually. Saw it twice in theaters and enjoyed it both times -- not as much as the other new SW films, but still a good time at the movies.

Same here, on all counts. Never thought we'd get a live action Star Wars TV show with big budget money behind it. Still kind of blows my mind.

A couple weeks ago I watched TFA and TLJ back to back, and I enjoyed TFA more than I remembered. Still love TLJ; it's my favorite of the new movies by a wide margin, and Mark Hamill towers over that film giving maybe his best performance ever IMO.

TFA is fun. Some rehash, sure, but I enjoy it.

I rewatched TLJ the other night to refresh myself in preparation for TROS. I didn't hate it as much as I used to. The Leia flying thing is still horrible and the casino side trip is still 100% pointless, but I enjoyed it for the most part. The hyperspace collision into Snoke's ship is still epic.

A few canon characters that have not been heard of in a long time are Grand Admiral Thrawn (from Rebels, who would be amazing on the big screen, but probably too big of a character/villain for TROS since the Emperor is supposedly back), Ezra Bridger (from Rebels), and Ahsoka Tano (from The Clone Wars and Rebels). The last two being Jedi that were not killed off via Order 66. They could return for the final battle. Hera Syndulla's ship from Rebels (The Ghost) is clearly seen to the right of the Millennium Falcon in the TROS trailer, so it's not out of the question.

I'd also like to see Sabine Wren make an appearance in The Mandalorian.

Dave Filoni (mastermind behind Clone Wars, Rebels) is too good at what he does to not bring us fans some closure around folks like Thrawn, Bridger and Wren. Mandalorian might work for some of that, I also suspect he's got plans for another series that might pursue those loose ends.

I'd like to see a younger version of Lor San Tekka appear in Mandalorian somehow (the character Max Von Sydow played at the start of Force Awakens...he sounds like someone who could have some really interesting backstories).

I suspect we're also going to get a healthy dose of proto-First Order in Mandalorian. Which is all kinds of fine with me.

And I'm currently arguing on Prog Archives about who are the post 70's Big 6 in my 8,770th post on that site.

I make no apologies for my massive and unrepentantly nerdy love of Star Wars both old and new. It's big honking space adventures involving wizards with light swords and more. There is VASTLY superior cinema out there, and there is also vastly more godawful cinema out there. This bit is my bit, and I love it to bits

Amen, brother! We shall rise up and be seen!

Here's one item from my collection that I have always favored. A 1983 original. The blister shell is not in the best shape, but it is complete and sealed against the backer.
