The (un) Official 2018 Big Ears Speculative rumor thread

So the hint dropping on FB has become pretty intense.
Just today they dangled Nels Cline, announced that all of last years venues will be used again .
    Getting my hopes up.

I'd say Nels Cline is a certainty based on that little FB hint

Diamanda Galas and Kid Koala seem highly likely as well.

Based on new releases or recent activity, I'm still hoping for Ben Frost and Stars of the Lid. But those are just wishes on my part, no hints or suggestions yet.

It's going to be an exciting month seeing it all revealed

Do they announce it all over a short period of time, unlike some other festivals <cough>?

There is usually a Big Reveal of the majority of artists pretty much when tickets go on sale.
It's general admission so there is no real rush.
Things change over the next few months with more announcements of collabs and films, etc.
Hopefully this year they will get the number of days set early on.

The days are set already, right? 3/22 - 3/25 so Thursday to Sunday again?

BTW Ian / Mark - I'm looking at hotel info and the Hilton is considerably higher than some of the other nearby hotels. If I stay for 4 nights, the difference between Hilton and Crown Plaza is almost $400. So I'm thinking of switching to the latter (it is also a big closer to the venues like Standard). Not saying we all have to buddy up or anything...just pointing it out.

Is there any promotional rate associated with the Hilton stay?
I think there was some sort of a break if you went through the Big Ears links.

I did use the Big Ears links, and those appear to be the rates. It seems they may have switched things up a bit, as all the hotel links seem to go through a charity-type system.

After taxes and everything else, the Hilton was going to be around $1100 for four nights, and the Crowne was around $700. I went ahead with the Crowne; I stayed there my first year and it was fine. Being slightly more downtown may also cut down a bit on the walking toward venues like the Standard and Mill & Mine.

The Holiday Inn Express has the best rates and might save you another $60-80 bucks (total)...but, I think that's kind of a bit further away, closer to the old Worlds Fair park.

Crowne may be the place to be.

We can start plotting the revolution, now that no one is looking

I will likely drop a thread on the main boards once the lineup starts to really get released. There are usually about half a dozen other folks who might care, plus a few folks who will greatly appreciate being given an opportunity to go "Who are all these bands?!? This isn't prog?!?!"

I never understand people reading only certain forums, I have everything I've posted in tagged to appear in subscribed threads & then check new posts. I never go to specific forums.

Yeah...but clearly lots of folks skip over stuff that isn't on the mains.

Then again, their loss! Best (arguably ONLY) reason to visit TN each year!

Sounds like fun, but I don't know it is a doable thing next year.

And I'm a fan of the New Post button totally disregarding which one of the forums the posts are in.

    Just getting warmed up.
These threads will spread faster than a Yes/Genesis/Rush reunion collab thread.

I hear Yes is going out on a reunion tour using holograms of an audience that still gives a f**k

Also, pretty sure it won't be at Big Ears, so there's that!

Another possibility, given some mentions on FB and the festival's fondness for minimalist music...Charlemagne Palestine.

I can post if thou all wish, but I can't attend, no matter who's performing ( and anyway, it's already been established elsewhere that I got the 'best' Diamanda....)

    From Big Ears FB:
Experimental quartet Algiers recently released their second album, "a work of political critique that draws on and repurposes aggressive '80s punk, Italian horror soundtracks, modern-day hip-hop and R&B, film, literature, current events and continuing tragedies." It all feels right...

I am going to go there and say they have been exploring the Urban sound more and dropping hints in that direction.
    More diversification or genre swapping?
