Downes Braide 3 with Partridge Bowness Longdon Almond Pierson Pomeroy

I've just posted about the Empire release from Cherry Red on 17 Nov. Also that day on Cherry Red is the third Downes Braide Association album, Skyscraper Souls: https://www.cherryred.co.uk/product/skyscraper-souls/ Described as taking a proggier direction but with a pop aesthetic. Guests are really interesting. As well as a Roger Dean cover, there's Tim Bowness, David Longdon and Lee Pomeroy on the prog side, but then on the pop side, The B-52's' Kate Pierson, Marc Almond and Matthew Koma (worked with the likes of Hilary Duff and Zedd), and on both sides, lots of Andy Partridge. More at http://www.bondegezou.co.uk/wngd.htm

CORRECTION: No Pomeroy on the album. Bass by Andy Hodge.

    Evidently, Pomeroy not on album.

My apologies, I see Downes has tweeted that there's no Pomeroy.

I see that Skyscraper Souls is a film from 1932. Interesting...

Oh dear. Not a lover of that cover art at all To my mind, if you must have that amount of text, it really needs a bit more thought over the design.

Would some admin mind removing Pomeroy's name from the subject line now we know he's not on the album? Thanks.

I'm not going to say that it's awful or anything, but I expected better. Oh well. Still excited for the album.

Yeah, I'm afraid RD has fallen under the spell of having his lettering designs converted to digital fonts so that the titles can just be typed out. That looks like he either handed the layout job to someone else, or else didn't give it more than a minute's thought. The confusing thing for me is: What is the title? Is it Skyscraper Souls, or is it DBA3?

Dear RD, thanks for the pic. As you can see our designer has made good use of all of the fonts you sent us.

I like the painting. The clashing fonts at the top are a bit odd, but they're reflecting the source material, so the approach makes some sense.

The Topographic Drama cover is much more appealing than the DBA3 cover, IMO.

They both have a lot of text, however.

Do you think the Roger Dean cover art for the DB3 album is an indication that this will be more proggy than the previous two?
