Thread: King Crimson Question

    King Crimson Question

So, as some of you may know, next month King Crimson returns to the United States, and because I occasionally like to spoil myself, I got the VIP package. Now this means that I get q&a time with the band.
I'm a huge fan of the band, and as much as it kills me to say it... I am just not sure what to ask. I'm sure it's the residual excitement but I'm totally stumped.
That being said I figured I'd ask the gang.
So, gang, if you had the opportunity, what would you ask King Crimson?
    Best,
    Jesse.

    Boxers or briefs?

    Is that a wig?

Which one of you is the King?

Are those drums hard to lug around?

Is the 10th member here tonight?

What's the difference between a burning question and a plain old question?
    Still alive and well...

Mine are all obvious, but I doubt anyone but Robert can answer the first few, and Robert would likely be cryptic in his usual affable way.

It there a studio album in the works?

Is more touring planned beyond this?

If so, what repertoire do they hope to add next?

Is there any piece you want to play that you haven't yet?

How does being part of this phase of King Crimson fit in with your artistic goals and aspirations?

What has learning and playing the repertoire taught you?

What has touring with this large and wonderful line-up taught you?
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world.

My questions would be for Robert, and there's no chance he'll be fielding the questions.

If you happen to get Mel Collins, you might consider asking him

1 ) How has this new return to KC in the 2010's affected or even re-shaped his perspective of the 1972 KC

2 ) How does he go about finding a place for himself within the post-1972 material, particular the music that did not include wind instruments. Is he given parameters within which to work or is he able to discover parts more or less freely?
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

What do you plan to be doing in the next five years? No good? They still ask that at job interviews.

Does anyone in the band care that they're not in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Mel Collins, what's your hair coloring secret?

Ask Mel Collins about working on the Wet Dream record.

^ Actually, if I got Mel Collins he'd be the easiest to question. I'd ask him if he has any interesting stories about working with Camel.
Actually, for any one of them since I grew up in NYC I'd probably ask What's your best memory of being in NYC, or did you have a chance to explore Central Park and how did you like it? You might be able to apply this to wherever you've seen them before. Always like to hear musicians impressions of my home town - granted they might remember more about NYC than some towns.

Actually, is Mel in the current band? I don't even remember!

Your going to likely have 30-90 seconds as there will be a line (10-20) of VIP holders waiting in line.

He was, but he dropped out to go on tour with Adele.

    1) Paper or plastic?

    2) Is your mellotron usually a carry-on or do you buy an extra seat for it?

    3) If King Diamond and King Crimson merged into one superband, would you call it King Diamond or King Crimson?

    4) Any chance we'll see Robert Fripp brand jarred marinara sauce in the grocery stores within 5 years?

If I were to ask a question of King Crimson it would be; what will you do for a Box Set (or an expanded edition of a KC classic in 5.1) next year?

The parameters are the song itself always, but, a cursory listening of the recordings shows that he seems to be clearly given carte blanche to blow , he probably gets more solos than Fripp at this point.

This gave me a momentary burst of joy, before I realized I was the victim of a cruel joke...

In a more serious vein, though not guaranteed to make friends or even get an answer:

The lack of new music puts King Crimson in constant threat of being driven by nostalgia, rather than creativity.
The current incarnation does not do extended improvs, and seems not to provide any real support for composition.
Where can new music possibly come from?

    Or my own bugaboo:

Why in hell would you do a cover of "Heroes"? It is manifestly not Crimson, and thus ipso facto unsatisfactory; but at the same time it is not foreign enough to provide a new experience for listeners. If you're determined to do covers, why not cover "Fool's Overture" or "Little Red Corvette"?

Robert played on the original Heroes album.

I wonder, if "I Don't Remember" had been a bigger hit, would they be playing a version of that?

Hey, once they went over two drummers I couldn't keep track.
