Five All Time Favourite Nearfest Shows

I went to NF in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. Three of my favourite shows came from my first NF in 2003 and two from 2005.

    1) Anglagard (2003)
    2) PFM (2005)
    3) Magma (2003)
    4) Le Orme (2005)
    5) Camel (2003)

    What are your top 5?

I missed a lot of shows because I had to work and so I had to pick and choose, so keep that in mind:

    NOT in order:

    Guapo
    Forgas Band Phenomena
    Magma (2003)
    Miriodor
    Kenso
    Gosta Berlings Saga

    yeah, that's six. sue me.

Any time any one speaks to me about any musical project, the one absolute given is "it will not make big money". [tip of the hat to HK]

"Death to false 'support the scene' prog!"

please add 'imo' wherever you like, to avoid offending those easily offended.

I can't really pick single shows, but some years stand out to me now more than others, for various reasons.

2001, the two years in Trenton and the last two years are among my faves.

    Gosta Berlings Saga
    Aranis

Wow.....very very difficult as I attended all of them. I am just going to pick 5 that come to mind quickly off the top of my head:

    1. Banco - The whole Italian prog scene kind of passed me by back in the day so this show was an emotional revelation.

    2. Morgibl - A Sunday prog church slot that blew me away.

    3. Nathan Mahl - Another Sunday prog church slot from a band totally unknown to me.

    4. Porcupine Tree - Another band on their way up. Outstanding show.

    5. Fish - Yea, his voice is not what it was, but the guy still knows how to hold an audience in the palm of his hand.

There are so many, I could go on and on.......

I went to 2002, 2003, 2004 (Sunday only so I missed Univers Zero which probably would have made top 5), 2005, 2008 (Saturday only so I missed Banco which definitely would have made top 5.)

Magma. Vander the best single musician performance I've ever seen.

Metamorfosi. Best pure symph prog I've ever seen.

Caravan. More for nostalgic reasons than being blown away.

Wow, no top-five love for Anglagard (plus Gosta Berlings Saga) at NF Apocalypse? That has to be right near the top for me.

why not list your top five instead of complaining about other folks' top five?

I wasn't complaining. I was just surprised that it hadn't been more prominently listed. (I admit that I did miss Ngbd's, probably because it didn't have the years right after the band).

    Good Afternoon Music Folks ~

Interesting that this thread appeared today. Just this morning I was going through a box of 'music stuff' that holds all the programs from the festivals (Nearfest being one that my attendance was for most of them). Took a few minutes to ride back to the delightful shows I did see!

    So - I'll play

    DFA
    After Crying
    Alamaailman Vasarat
    Thinking Plague
    Birdsongs of the Mesozoic

...perhaps the cream of my quite vivid memories. Thanks to ALL involved!

I went only to the '12 show. The planets were always out of alignment .
I did have the luck to have caught some of the bands throughout the years when they toured before or after Nearfest. ( Happy the Man, Flower Kings ( ! ), Caravan )
    Those don't count.
Of the bands at '12 3 would have made my list because they are still in rotation today and would not have been known to me otherwise.
    Gosta Berlings Saga
    Aranis
    Mike Kenneally

Since there's nothing like your first, I gotta go with Nathan Mahl's Sunday morning wake-up call in '99, plus Spock's Beard that year as well. Next up would be my bucket-list bands I thought I'd never see: Camel, Caravan and Happy the Man.
