Figured i'd find this in search but couldn't..

can anybody recommend a good, free or cheap music manager/player to replace iTunes? i just went through something yesterday that made me want to tear my hair out. with my newest iPod Touch (5G), the 'sync only checked items' is the main issue since it never worked - ever. but as i was going about trying to fix that, in the iTunes library i'm suddenly finding duplicate entries for the same album, missing songs in other albums, artwork that's suddenly not there when it was before, etc. just an absolute mess. and all this happened without me actually mucking with or changing the music library on my PC (i rarely touch it these days since i don't buy much music anymore). and even after i thought i fixed everything, there were still some albums getting synced that i had completely removed from my iTunes library in an effort to fix the sync problem. i mean wtf?
yet i've never had any syncing problems with my older Touch from 2011. go figure.
i read about MusicBee but these days i don't trust free downloads given that a lot of them have a lot of crap attached to them that they try and install that i don't want. any ideas appreciated.

I've found the only way for using iTunes that works for me is the Manage music manually option, I have automatic syncing disabled and never sync.
