    RIP George A. Romero

The "Night Of The Living Dead" filmmaker died Sunday at age 77 of lung cancer.

With a little more seriousness, while the cliche of a Boomer childhood was playing Cowboys and Indians, I felt the Xer childhood cliche was playing Zombie Apocalypse, particularly the mall defense from Dawn of the Dead.

(However, I suppose Star Wars or The Road Warrior would substitute as nicely. All of them are from guys named George, though.)

Romero really tapped into a primal anxiety, something I think that needs to be expressed. Whenever I experience extreme anxiety I dream about the walking dead. So this guy's cinematic vision has really burrowed into my subconscious. Impressive work.

I ought to revisit his last few movies and see how they hold up. Just remembered I have a promo still from Dawn of the Dead signed by him.

Yeah, they're not as good as the initial trilogy, but nobody's been able to top Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead, anyway.

That is amazing. Foliage that isn't on fire.
