I'm thinking the original poster was asking for bands that don't incorporate as much (or any) metal into their music especially in the guitar work. I'm sure there are those who don't like the long clean melodic kind of guitar playing and prefer the same-crunch, same-buzz effects used by every metal guitarist along with the aggressiveness. Myself, I prefer melodic.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I was away on vacation so not ignoring this thread.

A few responses were trying to guess "where I come in" I have been a Prog listener for a long time, but there are just so many bands. I found that at least half of Riverside's tunes are slower and dreamier with nice vocals, actually singing not screaming angrily. I also really like the guitar style I call "Less in More" where less notes are played but stretched and sustained like Piotr played, and sometimes very similar to how Gilmore plays lead. Just beautiful Guitar, no Shredding.

When I found the Quidam - Stronger music, it seems to fall right in line with what I like about Riverside. I have lots of P-Tree, some Flower Kings and lots of other world prog shared years ago by Demetrio (Brazil) and Troy. Also like Transatlantic and older Marillion (Fish over H).

I will be checking out all the fine suggestions above so thanks again.

I think you nailed "where I am coming from". Piotr was definitely a David Gilmore fan which shows in his playing. Maciek Meller from Quidam was a perfect choice to fill in for Piotr as he has a similar style in playing melodic dreamy leads. I have since acquired almost all of Quidam's earlier music with original female vocalist. Her version of Deep Purple's Child in Time is very cool. halfPLUGGED is another good disk.

I'm still listening to the rest of the suggestions but have not really come across anything as close as Quidam and Riverside but really appreciate all the time and suggestions provided.

How about RPWL or Osada Vida?
I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.

Airbag will likely meet what you're looking for. Very Gilmour'esque guitar.

As well as Airbag, check out the Airbag's lead singer Bjorn Riis, his latest album is recommended. Check out the track below.

here's a couple of my favorite tracks

    Hero In Disguise

    The Jewel City

check out another German band called smalltape. The Ocean is really good and basically the same band members have started another project called Mt. Amber with a debut release on the horizon.

I'm not going to just list Polish bands ... I'm basing this on the bands you like:

Get the Satellite CDs. You won't be sorry.
    Regards,
