Some of it makes sense. If the band is playing a festival or Casino those are often limited to 90 minutes as dictated by the venue. What does not make sense is the stand alone non casino venues like I saw them at Saturday night where they have unlimited time (especially when not using an opening act).

By the way, anybody know what's behind the cancellation of the European tour? The official reason - safety concerns - is one I find hard to take seriously as I'm pretty sure there are hundreds of other US bands that didn't cancel their European gigs.

The official reason took a lot of heat on the internet when they announced it. Just about every comment I saw was negative, especially from the European side of the fence. On the other hand shortly after that there were the two terrorist incidents in London and the incident at the Rock Am Ring festival in Germany where the entire site was evacuated, so maybe Kansas was on to something.

I think they were supposed to headline one of the stages at The Ramblin Man Festival in London which would have been a pretty big deal. Seems really odd they would pass that up.

Perhaps the tickets weren't selling. I don't see any huge demand for any iteration of Kansas, especially this one.

That is another rumor. I have no clue how popular they are / were in Europe.

I live in London so believe me I can understand that there would be concerns - I went to see Iron Maiden at the O2 Arena in London about a week after the bomb attack in Manchester and obviously it's hard not to be concerned.
But I can't think of any other bands that just flat out refused to come over to Europe, and if it really is just Kansas, why them? I still think there must be something else at play as well.

All it takes is one member who refuses to go, and they have seven.

I wonder if they're afraid the name Kansas might attract the wrong kind of attention?

I saw Kansas on Cruise to the Edge early this year. First time I've seen them with the new singer and expanded lineup. They sounded great, but... it was a bit "much" for me. The sound was TOO big with very little let-up. I love Kansas and have seen them countless times, but I was fatigued before their show was over. I wish that they would strip down the band (or arrangements) to give the music a chance breathe a bit more.

Robbie was originally the front man and lead vocalist, until Steve opened his mouth and let THAT voice out. Robbie continued to play front man, though. I always wondered if it was the fact that when Steve spoke, he sounded like a country hick, compared to his singing voice. He might've been a little self conscious.

That is a good point. Robbie had a very good speaking voice and Greer also seems pretty comfortable with it. Walsh not so much.

Out of curiosity, did Billy Greer act as front man for Streets?

Cant answer that one as I never saw them live.

It's Robby, not Robbie. The first three albums have his name misspelled. They finally got it right on the fourth album, Leftoverture.

The Kansas we know was born of a vision Phil had: of Steve singing Kerry's songs. Outstanding singer + outstanding composer.

I saw them at a small club in the Chicago 'burbs about 35 years ago. I don't recall Billy speaking at all. What I DO remember is what an awesome voice he had. And Steve's Oberheim.

Yeah, Billy Greer's a fab singer. Shame he didn't have any leads on the Streets albums. Record company insistence apparently. Great band, regardless.

On the new album, the song that he sings "Summer" is my second favorite on the disc. I also really liked the one he sang on "Somewhere To Elsewhere" too.

I also felt cheated when I went to see Kansas at the Long Center in Austin TX (August 2015) when the show ended after 90 minutes or less. This was my first time seeing the band with the two new guys that replaced Steve Walsh and was very impressed with the singer who did a fine job. Similar to what happened with Journey and Foreigner when new and younger singers replaced the veteran ones that have lost their vocal range. Sadly, with Boston's Brad Delp never lost his vocal range, but his life.

The venue was half full and The Prelude Implicit had not yet been released so I figured that was the main reason the set was so short but I see now that trend keeps going on even after the new album and the Leftoverture shows. I hope this changes for the benefit of the fans because that too does impact attendance in the long run.

It just seems weird to me that they would finally start doing 2.5 hour shows (albeit with an intermission), but then go back to doing 90 minutes (with no opening act no less). As I have said before, if this were a festival show I can understand it since festivals typically set the amount of stage time, but this one being stand alone in a nice theater with expensive tickets, just seems to make no sense. And of course the weirdest thing of all was to actually announce from the stage to come see us again and we will do 2.5 hours next time around. I did not really feel ripped off, but did not really feel great about it either. Just very odd……..

There wasn't an intermission when I saw them earlier this year doing Leftoverture. The only reason I went was that the were doing a longer show. 90 minutes? The last 3 times I had seen them they did 75 minutes including encores, as a headliner, with no opener. These were at casinos where I'd seen other bands do 2 hours, so I don't buy the whole "casino made us play shorter" excuse. If they go back to short shows I will stop attending again.

...i was watching Supernatural on TNT this afternoon and Kansas was mentioned.
a guy died and was going to heaven and he asked the star of the show- "what's it all mean?"
so he says "all we are is dust in the wind". so the guy says "that's it- a Kansas song?"
i had to laugh and share it.

They only did 80 minutes in Lawrenceburg, Indiana last Saturday night. Skipped the first 2 of the set list Steve showed and started with Point... Enjoyed the show but not a great value considering the ticket price. The energy of the new lineup is such a noticeable improvement!
