    Venue ideas in northeastern USA?

    Hello all,

I'm looking to compile a list of music venues in the northeastern USA which host national acts, have a capacity of roughly 200-500 and a stage which fits full drum kit and keyboards, and can support a ticket price of $30-40. If they have a prog audience regularly, that's a plus!

If you happen to be familiar with the Sellersville Theater in PA, that's an ideal example. More like that.

What are your favorites? Thanks for any assistance!

I second that. Great place for prog shows. Have been to several there. Seats around 500 at capacity. All seats have good sight lines. Very good sound system. Areas for vendors and band tables, too.

    Tarrytown Music Hall

A strong local Prog crowd. Seen bands like Steve Hackett, Renaissance, Anderson/Ponty, Kansas there in recent years.

    Actually, it's 843 seats.

Best venues in Boston/Cambridge if you are ok with all standing.

Only 200-500 that host national acts narrows it down a bit.

In the NYC area, there's: Music Hall of Williamsburg (standing room only), Brooklyn Bowl (standing room only), Mercury Lounge (standing room only), Knitting Factory (standing room only), The Stone, Iridium.

Outside NYC, I only know of the Grog Shop (Cleveland, Ohio) and Upstate Concert Hall - formerly Northern Lights (Clifton Park, NY)

These are basically bar-sized capacities that you're talking about.

The Tralf in Buffalo would be ideal.

Ramshead Onstage in Annapolis, MD. Strawbs played there last year I think.
Santander in Reading, PA. Two venues there I think, different sizes. Saw Hackett there last year and Kansas coming up later this year.
The Tralf in Buffalo is great. They've probably played there before. The German House in Rochester if it's still going. They've played there before.

A LOT of people played there including Van Der Graaf Generator. Will be seeing the amazing Tommy Emmanuel there in a few weeks.

Yayy!! Would love to see them again, for the 7th or 8th time. They've played the Regent in Arlington, MA, at least twice in the last few years and have drawn good-sized audiences.

Tralf in Buffalo (nice, saw VDGG)

Bears Den at the Casino in Niagara Falls. REALLY nice, intimate, not a bad seat anywhere, nice size stage w/ riser for drums. Saw Captain Beyond there last Friday, seriously recommended. Here's a picture and info. Can't help you with prices.

From another thread on this sub-forum re.: Strawbs NE tour...
Friday 17 November TBC Northampton MA

Last year the electric ensemble played the intimate Iron Horse, where I had previously seen the acoustic trio a number of times. I was delighted to see the full band in such an intimate setting but would love to see them in a theater setting (as I did several times at the Regent in Arlington and of course at Nearfest), so hoping they will in fact play the larger Academy of Music here in Northampton. My concern would be size...last year the Security Project show at the AoM was criminally underattended, so this year they are playing the Iron Horse (with Happy Rhodes on vox--I am so psyched for this). This iteration of electric Straws--with Bainbridge on keys and Fernandez on drums-is so powerful that a theater setting would be ideal. Even the acoustic trio opening for VdGG at the Regent had thunderous bass pedals that blew me away.
