Why aren't the Allman Bros. considered prog?

As a long time observer of PE, because of numerous Grateful Dead posts, and after hearing the sad news of Greg Allman's passing, I have to ask why this jam heavy and early improvisational band is not considered prog. Good God, many of you gush over the drivel put out by Styx, Asia, Journey and other prog want-to-be BS bands, so what's the deal with ignoring the Allmans?

Well, back in the day....maybe if Greg Allman donned a cape he "could" have passed himself off as a Wakeman look-alike........about as Prog as it could have hoped to become.

That's not to say that their music wasn't complex...a lot of the dueling guitar parts had GREAT implied harmonies going on and they liked to solo using harmonic minor a bunch of times too.

I LOVE the Allmans...was listening to Eat a Peach on the way into work this morning as a matter of fact.

The Allmans were not prog - blues, jazz, rock influences, yes. Why slag other bands?
