Thread: My Ambient Guitar Gently Sleeps

  1. #151
Got the El Cap this past weekend. Here it's running before the Dig. The Cap is giving some texture with tape wear and wow and flutter repeats, and then the Dig opens things up (follow by the big sky for reverb).

At the end it gets silly- I capture the loop as it fades in the El Capistan, and then let it degrade for a bit. Looping a drone or simple phrase in the El Capistan and then just letting it degrade over time is hypnotic.

Checked out the Frippertronics on Bandcamp yesterday and This is How I Play Guitar Now and the one from Feb 16(Sat) and enjoyed them all very much. I have trouble listening to instrumental pieces for very long due to a slight case of attention deficit, but I love the soundscapes you are getting.
Some people may think it's easy to just sit back and let the textures take over, but it's not. It takes talent, practice and patience to control it all into a musical piece.

Very well done, and thank you again for your kind words of encouragement and for visiting my page.

    Nice stuff James.

I recently put up on Bandcamp my experiments with the Valhalla Shimmer & Space Modulator plugins. They transformed some very ordinary guitar playing into something else entirely.

Listening now Steve. Lovely as always. Ooh. just got to the big moment in the first one. Nice.

Working on getting my gear cleaned up on a proper pedal board. Maybe, possibly, finding avenues to soundscape in public. eek.

Thanks James, would love to hear more about that, good luck!

I've probably posted most of these tracks here over the last few months, but I just recently put a bunch of sketches together that I thing hang together pretty well as a collection.

Just bought a Chase Bliss Condor used. Tracking it's journey to me now. Kills two birds with one stone: my first Chase Bliss pedal, and a desperate need for a preamp/boost/eq at the start of my chain. This should be the last thing I need to make beautiful music. Looking at playing at a wine bar in my neighborhood in May. I'll let you know how it goes...

    Very cool!
Lots of possible settings/combos on the CB pedals, right? The right preamp/boost/EQ makes everything else later in the chain sound better.

    Let us know.

Yeah, they all have a row of dip switches along the back that reconfigures the heck out of what they can do. This guy gives a good rundown of the Condor with a focus on the dip switches:

I'm looking to use it more for eq and preamp purposes, but it looks like it does a lot of fun wah and tremolo stuff.

Dang! My head is spinning. So many options. What a well thought-out design.

    Thanks for the link!

Just dropping it into the works and a/b comparing my clean tone with and without the Condor, the purchase was justified. An all-around fuller tone. I'mma hold off on playing with the wibbly sounds for now.

Awesome, I love it! and the ability to change the pitch and use the pitch knob to create a melody is wonderful.
    Which pedal is that?
btw, I'm not on instagram or I would've commented with a big ol heart. Beautiful job mr james.

Yep, what IS that pedal - sounds good.

That is the Dwarfcraft Grazer, a very glitchy but fun granular delay pedal.

Here is my first youtube video, the full version of the last short thing i posted on Insta.

    Thanks again for your support!
