Lately I have been diving into some classic Jazz (Coltrane, Davis, Thelonious Monk, Ella Fitzgerald e.a. ) While I like most of it, it is Nina Simone which really hits a special button with me. Damn, what a talent she was! Never I have heared such an amazing voice combined with such skilfull piano playing.
I now own an Essential original album box which contains:
- Little Girl blue
- Nina Simone sings Ellington
- Nina Simone at town hall (holy moly WHAT an live album!!!)
- The amazing Nina Simone
- Nina Simone at Newport
- Forbidden fruit
So what other albums do I need? "Pastel blues" and "the high priestress of soul" are already on my shortlist but what else? What about the stuff she did in the 70ies, 80ies and 90ies?
