I've listened to this 4 or 5 times and it's growing on me. I have no issues with Ninet's voice. Based on this one song, I'm looking forward to the album. Now, the song I really want to hear is the one that was posted as a video snippet on YouTube in February featuring Mark Feltham on harmonica (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAPJvWJAOFI).

I'm glad to read/hear he's taken a turn for the pop. He'd done the noodley, textural exploration thing to death up thru Raven. Time to shift gears, IMO. Good pop is still better than so-so prog.

I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.

I don't really hear a big difference to some of the tracks off HCE (thinking of a mix between the title track and Perfect Life). In the context of the album they worked quite well for me but a whole album of that stuff seems redundant to me...

Maybe so but Pariah is unfortunately quite mediocre pop. :/

I see he kept the "tired of Facebook" line in the final cut. I'd love to see Polly Samson and Steven work on some tracks together.

I have thought for a long time that most good prog was mediocre pop. Meaning that the audience was not there for it.
There is no shortage of mediocre pop or mediocre prog IMHO.
Wilson usually does a pretty good job of making interesting music. Sometimes he hits a home run, sometimes a sacrifice bunt.

His records used to be an autobuy for me. However, I was disappointed with "4 1/2," and this new track sounds as if he's heading off into a more pop and less prog direction, so no autobuy for you, O Shirtless One. I'll have to wait and hear more before I go all spendy on it. Also that cover art isn't helping.

Well usually it's just no shoes/socks, so he's really turning traditions on their head.

If there was no budget for cover art, then there certainly isn't anything left in the shirt budget.

My take on this cover: EEEUUUUWWWW.

I can't believe people allow an album's cover art to factor into their purchase decision.

We can call it the Annette Peacock effect

Gun to my head and I wouldn't have been able to tell you he had his shirt off on the cover, even after seeing it a couple dozen times. It just means so little that I don't even process it.

It doesn't at all. But this "cover art" smacks of "I've lowered my standards," or "why bother" or something. Of course, all just my opinion. Covers for TRTRTS and HCE were interesting, thought-provoking, and had a connection to the music. To follow those with this? Uh......

Also, it seems to be connected to the music. Like if SW didn't even bother with actual cover art for this record, what does that say about the music? Maybe nothing, but again, all just my opinion.

I like that they did not record the vocals separately. Gives it a little extra chemistry.

    Pretty much this.

Also, someone made the Perfect Life comparison. IMO, the chorus for PL is way stronger.

Maybe after hearing the music it will all make sense.
