Hey PEers,
This post is an FYI for anybody interested in my radio show. I'm posting about it at this time, because the station where my show airs has a brand new website. This is significant for several reasons. The stream of the live broadcast sounds excellent! More importantly though, is that each show has it's own page within the site. That page will house the last 8 shows on a rolling basis, for streaming or download. Each podcast show has a corresponding playlist and more. People have asked me about this in the past, and finally it's here.
About the show itself:
CFMU-FM broadcasts on the FM dial in Hamilton, Ontario, a large city half hour southwest of Toronto. It's very popular as far as campus/community stations go, and it wins "station of the year" at Hamilton Music awards more often than not. I've been in the same time slot (Fridays 10am-12noon EST) since August, 2002, after a 3 year run at another station.
The show is really cool and different in so many ways from what you may have come to expect from this type of thing. So I'm going to lay out a description of sorts, so that we can filter who this may or may not be for: It's a progressive rock radio show. However, there are certain things you are likely to hear, and certain things you're not likely to hear. My specialty is the lesser known material, specifically proto-prog and eclectic prog of which I have an extensive collection. I like some of the psychedelic side of things too. But most of that will be old stuff. This isn't the show you listen to to get the newest in prog, though of course some newer prog is played occasionally. This is where you go to listen to older stuff that you've never heard before (as well, of course, a bit o' stuff you have heard, but you know, that's defeating the purpose). I don't play neo-prog, or prog-metal, or the newest math-rockers from a neighborhood near you. The material comes from around the globe and is focussed mainly on late 60s -early to late 70s. It's a trip back in time to the radio of your youth. From the music to the vibe, it reeks of that era. LOL. One thing for sure, it's a truly unique radio experience. Break out the doobies. Now that the podcasts are up, check out the playlists, see which one might strike your fancy, and give it a whirl.
The website is http://cfmu.ca
Each Friday morning, I will post the playlist for that day's show here in this thread. Within 24 hours of airing live, it will then appear as a podcast on my show page. This has been a public service announcement. Peace.
BTW: because of timing and all that, sometimes the last seconds of the show that airs before mine, leak on to the beginning of the podcast of my show. lol I've been told there's a couple of them that have a few seconds of real whacky noisy shit at the beginning ...don't panic if you're streaming it, the actual show will always start within half minute or so.
