Oh, I thought this was about Frith. Nothing unusual about females playing pop music.
The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off

They'll be letting them vote next.

Could this possibly be one of the greatest keyboard intros in progressive rock?

"chicks"? Why not call them "dames", "skirts", "bitches", "babes", "broads" or some other respectful name?

Well they are babelicious ... That is, until they open their respective mouths to sing
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

Well your irreverence is sexist and not calling you out on it is the equivalent of condoning it...

So I guess there is more than one...

If you want to refer to women as "chicks" it's your right I suppose and will only reflect on you. I work in an office filled with women and if I started calling them "chicks" I'd surely get an earful...

Hmm, trying to weigh in on this neutrally.

I think someone can say "chicks" without it being inherently offensive or with any intention to degrade. And I feel that Chrisopher's post was a bit over the top. That said, it's Uneven's reaction to him and others is what concerns me.

Sure, progressive rock is somewhat dominated by male fans, but this forum is designed to be open and respectful to all. There are some women who post here (thankfully), but others who feel somewhat alienated, objectified, or otherwise turned off, and they have left this site over the years. That's a shame.

Listen, I am hardly PC and I rather dislike social outrage, shaming, and internet warriors. But I think we could all benefit by being more aware and mindful about such things, and putting a little more thought in what we say before we say it never hurts.

To the rankled "and ones": "Chicks" has been an innocuous term for women for as long as I can remember. It's not a put-down, insult or any such thing. I can't believe we're even having this discussion. I remember a commercial on TV with the tag line "The chicks are back" which referred to women, and no one batted an eye. And Christopher, if you think "babes" is a put down, you need help. As in psychiatric. Most women would love to be referred to as a "babe." As Kerry pointed out, the Dixie Chicks, an all-female band, used the term in reference to themselves. I can assure you that they didn't have self-esteem issues. And you guys think it's an insult?

If enforcing some artificial standard is how you make yourself feel more "enlightened," have at it, but don't expect me to sign on. And if we as a culture are so thin skinned that no nicknames can be used, only "men" and "women," then we are well and truly fucked up. Am I supposed to be butt-hurt if someone refers to me as a "dude?" Sorry, I didn't get the memo, but I'm not a denizen of the cubicle farms anyway.

I used the word "chicks" in a post today to refer to women, and no one said a word. Maybe all the Delicate Flowers have me on ignore, or maybe the fact that it was used in a common way to refer to a common thing was so freaking obvious that not even the Professionally Offended found fault with it. Please. Get a grip, folks.

That's kind of the point. As long as you remember is a long time and the world has moved on. When I see the term "chicks" I think of Archie comics. It's not even offensive, it's ridiculous.
