Hopefully Aymeric will reply, but we know "Days" was a holdover from the '78 sessions. But I could see why Steve, Chris, and Alan would sort of look confused at it. As in, "What the hell do you expect us to do with this?"
IMO "Everybody Loves You" and "Hear It" could probably both have been developed into something bigger and Yes-y given enough time, but the only really Yes-y song on Song of Seven is the title track. If Jon had brought that to the sessions I can't imagine those guys not wanting to sink their teeth into it.
But I get the sense it was more a case of Jon bringing lyrics to what the other three had been developing. I think I read that Steve in particular had no patience for the "airy fairy crap" Jon was spouting and -- if I recall the Dan Hedges book quote correctly -- "told Jon what he thought of him." It's no wonder Jon walked out.
