I think my favorite TD album now is Zeit.
Recent live music on modular synth from Caterina Barbieri, whose music i like quite a lot.No new ground is being broken here;just well crafted accessible sound, and that's enough for me.YMMV.
"please do not understand me too quickly"-andre gide
Just listened to Klaus Schulze's 2013 album Shadowlands. Rating:
David Miles Huber--I like the ingenuity of this.
Minor thread resurrection for something that might interest a few folks here.
Recent album from Dallas Campbell "The Seven Sisters and the Serpent." For me at least, it answers a question I didn't even know I had: what would it sound like if John Carpenter had collaborated with Goblin (and possibly Eloy) on the soundtrack to "Escape from New York?"
It isn't a question I ever pondered, but damn am I enjoying the answer. This will easily land in my top 10 for the year.

^Good shit, Battman. I see he, uh, doesn't like to release his stuff on CD, though.
Most of the new wave of synth folks don't, to be honest. I buy where I can find 'em but many are either vinyl, cassette, or digital.

I still have my tape deck for releases that are cassette only (luckily most include a download code but sometimes someone goes full hipster and shafts me over on that one).

Speaking of synth things... currently at the Kennedy Center in DC. Kyle Dixon + Michael Stein (of SURVIVE) are here to perform their score from Stranger Things live.
Saw SURVIVE about two years ago and loved it, and am very excited to see what they have in store for us tonight
Long story short: it was absolutely wonderful.
I am not sure the crowd was as into it as I was; this was literally soundtrack music so very, very heavy on dissonant/atmospheric pieces, only a few "songs" from the soundtrack like the main theme and whatnot. In fact, more than once I was reminded of the less-rhythmic parts of albums like Logos and Poland. They used a brilliant lighting approach and low-hanging scaffolding with intentionally-scattered wires and cords (and heavy duty fog machines) that made the stage look a bit like it was in the Upside-Down. Hard as hell to make out in this video from a few years ago but it does give a fair sense of what the show was like:

The main theme happens about 9 minutes in or so.
In addition, a string quartet (I think called The Spektral Quartet) came out as an opener and did a brief tribute to the music of Johann Johannsson. Which was quite nice, with a tiny amount of FX added in for atmosphere (my only complain would just be that Johannsson's work was so lush and textured that a string quartet feels like a very thin interpretation). And then their set ended with Dixon/Stein coming out and they all did a fairly cool rendition of "Children of the New Dawn" from his posthumous "Mandy" soundtrack.

Thank you, John. I am glad you enjoyed it so much. From looking at a chunk of that video and reading your review I can tell it was a unique event. I bet those fog machines really set the mood (a comment on the video of the Polish performance said the heavy duty nature of the smoke/fog was intense). This is the perfect example of what is available in large markets like the D.C. area. While we can get some cool things out here, these larger scale events pass us by.
Good on you for going.
