The Red Crested cardinal and the Saffron finch as viewed in Hawaii.

Scarlet Ibis, Kookaburra, Flamingoes, and Roseate spoonbill at the Honolulu Zoo.
I've never heard of a Red Crested Cardinal. Cool looking bird! We have Northern Cardinals coming out the wazzoo!
Apparently there is also a yellow Cardinal. The Red Crested was brought here from South America.

I had no idea!
I’m not a biologist. So I googled “species of cardinals” and got 47 entries.
I posted the list I got from eBird when I typed in "cardinal" so that is just birds with the name "cardinal" in it. If you want to get super-technical, Wikipedia lists 53 species of birds that are in the cardinal family, including tanagers, grosbeaks, seedeaters and buntings.

I saw an Indigo Bunting once in my life so far.
Me too. It landed on a bush in my front yard. I tried to get a photo but I only had my phone so it just looked like a blurry blueberry on top of the bush. I think I deleted it.
That was the same year we had a scarlet tanager in our back yard - also my only sighting.
I have a friend that has likely seen them all. He's currently the #2 birder in the world for 2021 and #11 all time. He has seen 7,389 species to date and very likely discovered a new species of sunbird this past spring in eastern Africa.
A saw a leucistic house finch back in the spring. Kinda shocking to see. It was hanging around the back door of the lab at work where we have a picnic table and sometimes a bird feeder (had to take it down after I almost stepped on a bear when I came out the door one day).
Also saw a hermit thrush for the first time (at least knowingly) while cutting firewood this fall. Very curious birds that seemed not to have much fear of us as it hopped around the ground in all the areas we disturbed by moving branches and logs. The photos I took were pretty much useless as we were in a shaded area and it just blended in perfectly with the background.
