This is not my photo. It was taken by a neighbour at a nearby creek. Great Blue Heron with an afternoon snack.

I finally figured out what bird my parrot has been imitating.

Carolina Wren.
This little feller would not have sounded out of place on an early Edgar Froese album.
This may be my favorite...

I've never heard of a Red Crested Cardinal. Cool looking bird! We have Northern Cardinals coming out the wazzoo!
There are 10 species of cardinal actually:
Vermilion Cardinal
Northern Cardinal
Pyrrhuloxia
Red-crested Cardinal
Red-cowled Cardinal
Masked Cardinal
Red-capped Cardinal
Crimson-fronted Cardinal
Yellow-billed Cardinal
Yellow Cardinal

I posted the list I got from eBird when I typed in "cardinal" so that is just birds with the name "cardinal" in it. If you want to get super-technical, Wikipedia lists 53 species of birds that are in the cardinal family, including tanagers, grosbeaks, seedeaters and buntings.

A saw a leucistic house finch back in the spring. Kinda shocking to see. It was hanging around the back door of the lab at work where we have a picnic table and sometimes a bird feeder (had to take it down after I almost stepped on a bear when I came out the door one day).
Also saw a hermit thrush for the first time (at least knowingly) while cutting firewood this fall. Very curious birds that seemed not to have much fear of us as it hopped around the ground in all the areas we disturbed by moving branches and logs. The photos I took were pretty much useless as we were in a shaded area and it just blended in perfectly with the background.

I once saw the great majestic foo bird.
From a sheltered location, of course.
