Are you sure it was a flicker? We have the yellow-shafted subspecies of flicker in Canada and the northern US. Red-bellies, Downies and Hairies have white underwings though.

We get Downies and Hairies all the time. This was definitely not either of those. And it wasn't a red-bellied either. I can't say with 100% certainty that it was a Northern Flicker, but based on photos I'm 99.9% sure.Originally Posted by Nearfest2

I got a very rare bird this Saturday at the end of morning flight at Higbee Beach WMA in Cape May, NJ. A Brewster's Warbler flew into a tree just above my head. The Brewster's Warbler is the rarer of two hybrids between a Golden-winged Warbler and a Blue-winged Warbler combining the dominant characteristics of each. Pretty cool!

That’s pretty much my speed. I’ve got a few very loud blue jays hanging around my house lately. Very pretty birds but loud
And nasty also. They go after the crows around here.

You got it[emoji106] That is the bird in flight too. First time I’ve seen a green heron. Seen many blue herons and other members of the heron family such as egrets.

I would have said "large".
Well, it’s standing in the picture, so if it’s dead, kudos to it for dying standing up!
It was being lazy, pecking in some dead weeds for insects.

Thanks to everyone who answered my question re: the Green Heron. I've seen lots of blue heron's, but the green heron is new to me.
I was just parroting Wiki. But if I had a dick 15 inches long and you had a dick 5.25 inches long, and that pecker is 7.5 inches tall, wouldn’t that be a medium
