    Animals as Leaders

Been hearing a lot about these guys. They seem pretty popular among my musician pals at school. Anyone into them here? What's a good place to start? (In the interest of keeping up on the current scene n'at)

I only have Joy of Motion, and I like it a lot. I want to hear their other albums.

I have the first three, Weightless is probably my favorite but they are all of similar good quality, I'm a fan. I'd start with the debut and move forward.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

Funny, that comparison would never have occurred to me, at least not based on the first two albums, which I've got.
I was thinking more in terms of Mahavishnu meets Meshuggah. But the music does change at a rate of knots, rarely staying in the mood or on the same theme for more than a minute at a time, so it is possible to find lots of similarities even within the same track.

Its the interlocking instruments & odd meter rythms that made med compare them. Like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpSps6-OXJQ
But off course there is much more to it.

You are right. You also get sections like this in the title track on Weightless.

I find that listening to their albums can be a rather overwhelming experience, tending to information overload, because there is so much going on.

They are playing my area this spring as an opening act for Korn. Seems like an odd combination to me, but it might get them some exposure to a different audience.

I agree. Opening for Tool would seem more appropriate. I like Korn too though but they aren't as prog as say Tool.

The sold out the venue last time they played Boston and it wasn't a small venue.

one cannot deny their skills and their craftiness … saw them live at ArcTangent last year but saturation set in rather quickly, so i left early. tosin abasi IS amazing, though.
