Bandcamp day! Download as much as possible Friday, February 3rd!

If you were ever on the fence about downloading certain albums on bandcamp.com, now is a good time because all of Bandcamp's proceeds today (Friday, February 3rd) will be donated to the ACLU. If you like music and civil liberties, then it's a win-win!

Of course I recommend all my band pages (my solo stuff, Secret Chiefs 3, Bodies Floating Ashore, Three Piece Combo, Fuzzy Cousins, Mumble & Peg...) but get whatever you like. Like all the Cuneiform records for example!

    Thank you,

    - Matt

I've got many new BC lovelies to download this evening after work: some David Borden/Mallard goodness from Steveiform, plus various stuff from Robert Rich, William Basinski, Repeated Viewing, Oto Hiax and others.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Also, Ephemeral Sun: it's a thing and we like making things that might be your thing: https://ephemeralsun.bandcamp.com

Not a good idea to start politicizing this board. Some feel, and rightly so, that the ACLU is a highly partisan organization that is best defunded or at least recalibrated to be less partisan (indeed, its view of "civil liberties" leans in a most particular direction). So let's keep the politics out of here.

Then focus on the fact that BC really benefits a lot of the artists you -- and others -- love and hopefully support. Because that is where the lion's share of your money will be going today - to those artists.

It is certainly your right to not give money to an organization that you don't believe in. No one should think any less of you for it.

That being said, this is a good excuse for good recommendations from Bandcamp.

    ^^

Yep! Ordered the Reuter/Mastelotto disc myself today. I'm a big supporter of the work the ACLU does and Bandcamp is simply the best streaming/download site around for musicians.

I'm very supportive of Bandcamp, and have bought a lot from them in the past few years.

If anyone wants to recommend music from Bandcamp on its merits, feel free to do so here - that's what Progressive Ears is for. And I have no problem keeping this thread on the main board.

But if this thread gets political, in support of or in opposition to the ACLU or any other cause, the thread will be closed. PE is not only "apolitical" - it is "non-political". Please honor that.
    Regards,

    Duncan

Your wording suggests that the lion's share of money does NOT go to those artists on a day other than today. I suspect that is not what you meant to say, and if one day is like the next, my point is that we should not promote BC on days when a controversial political group is benefiting.

Hey Bill, I went to that link because I thought there's a chance I would like your stuff. I clicked through on both albums, but could not get a single track to play. Not sure what the problem is, but the player is just spinning it's wheels.

We're all adults here, and I suspect reasonably well informed. Those who do not support the aims of the ACLU already are aware that they don't, and those that do support the aims of the ACLU already know that they support them. The OP is just making those inclined to support the group aware of the donation plan in effect today. I don't see any attempt to proselytize or convey a political message, so I don't see how that is truly a violation of the ToS.

What is overlooked is that BC's donation plan is, by its very nature, a political message, even ignoring the fact that BC won't be partnering with conservative groups anytime soon. So it does seem to be a violation of the ToS.

I just wanted to thank you for the heads up about this, before this thread is closed.

    Thanks again!

Quite frankly, any opportunity to show support for bands and labels that IMHO really need it would have been more than enough reason to keep this thread rolling.

However, that appears to not be the case. I'm out. I'll sing the praises of BC in other threads and other times.

You're right, I'm experiencing the same issue. I'll look into it when I can, thanks for bringing it to my attention. In the meantime, I see you found us on Youtube. Thanks so much for checking us out!
