New Cult of Luna live: Years in a Day

    Ohhhh, this is just lovely:

I was lucky enough to see them around 2013 on tour with Katatonia and they were MONSTERS. Still one of the finest metal/prog shows I've ever seen.

Only a few of us care, but the caring is great.

They'll perform Mariner, their collaboration album with Julie Christmas (the best female vocalist ever) in the US later this year.

I've been to the Mariner concert in Kortrijk (Belgium). A fantastic performance.

So, this set arrived the other day. What an amazing package; basically three concerts:

Roadburn 2013 CD (focuses heavily on Vertikal)
Roadburn 2016 CD (the complete Somewhere Along the Highway album)
Paris 2016 DVD (great mix, includes great stuff from Vertikal II)

There's also a download for the Paris audio in WAV format. The package itself is gorgeous, maybe around the size of a 10" record. Watching the Paris DVD right now...great picture quality.

I hope the day never comes when I tire of hearing "I: The Weapon"

Picked this up yesterday, having finally crawled out from under the crushing power of Vertikal.

Haven't even unwrapped it, and am thinking of heading back to the store to pick up Mariner....

Mariner is a slightly different beast; unlike Vertikal it took a while to sink in. Now, I think it's wonderful.

Can't wait to see them in NY next month!

I decided to take the plunge with this set, after enjoying Vertikal so much, and there's lots to like with this double album, but a few reservations as well.

I've blogged my thoughts in more detail here, if anyone is interested.

I think it's a good and very fair write-up, sir. As an existing fan, it's essential for me; but I'd definitely send a newcomer toward Vertikal each and every time.

Interesting about the video...I'd not noticed those limitations before. Having seen them before I wasn't really expecting a mind-blowing visual presentation so usually I just put in the disc and hit 'play' while doing other things. The audio is definitely the biggest value, both the CDs and the digital download of the audio from the DVD.
