As someone who watched both parents die... it's not any fun getting so old that you're immobile or senile. Death comes as a relief at that point.

I sorta hope I stay young forever... Oops, too late!

On the subject of composing..The guy that was responsible for the words 'Hope I Die Before I get Old, Pete Townsend, was still in his teens when he wrote them. He is now age 71 and could make the list in the very near future. He now would have a very different position on the topic.

I know that. It's the same with people who shouted in the past "Never thrust anyone over 30".

"Thrust" instead of "trust" wasn't a Freudian slip, was it, Renate?

No, just a lack of English knowledge.

It should have read "never trust anyone over 30 inches" or for our Euro friends, 75cm...

I was lucky enough to see Tony Bennett a couple of summers back, I stood a few yards from him (it was a standing venue in London, part of the iTunes festival that year) and was mesmerised by the beautiful vocal delivery and sublime ease with which he carried the audience. He ended with an a capella vocal, un-miked and you could hear a pin drop. A wonderful wonderful evening of music.

Lucky you! Although the standing part seems odd for an old fart concert. However, it seems that PE members, at least some of us, can still appreciate the real thing thing when it comes to music of any genre.

Kay & I saw Tony B. 3 times, & at one of the shows he brought out Diana Krall for a couple of tunes. Absolute magic!

Anytime I start thinking that I'm hot shit because I can still belt out rock songs at 72, listening to about 8 bars of Tony at 90 justifiably slaps me into reality.

My mom used to go see Tony Bennett in the 50s in little clubs in Miami. Because he was still pretty young and happy to have a following she said he was always really friendly to the regulars.

I've heard it said that mogrooves is somewhere in his eighties. With some of the things he's described having seen - Charlie Parker(?) - he'd have to be. But I've never met him, and I can't recall anyone else saying they've met him or know him. So I'm not sure whether it's true or just a rumor.
